Removed 4x4 decals...Now what?

I finally removed my 4x4 decals yesterday. I know I should have done it a lot sooner but I couldn't make up my mind. The truck was built in March '04 so they had been on for almost 2 years. Overall, they came off easy and after a little work it looks pretty good. Only problem is when looking at it very close, there's a few places around the edges where the adhesive is very stubborn. Any suggestions on those areas? Will it eventually wear away or do I need to do something about it? I would take a pic but I don't think I could get it to show up.

Thanks in advance.

Clay bar I think would take it off.

some isopropanol and a clean soft cloth will remove it.

Acetone and the clay bar should do the trick!

3M Adhesive Remover...

This is a product that is specifically formulated to remove what you have on your truck. If I were you, I'd seriously consider it -- I believe that Wally World keeps it in stock.

Be sure to wax the entire area after you do it as it *WILL* remove any surficial protection that was there.

And if you don't care to give Wally World your money, most parts stores carry it as well...

Thanks for all the tips. I initially used WD-40 which took all but the most stubborn spots away. I think I'll pick up the 3M stuff and give that a try. I still have some clay left over too just in case.

Let us know how it works... I don't know that clay is the best option if the adhesive is gooey and such...

It's not gooey at all. In fact, I suppose it could still have a small layer of the decal on top of it if that's possible.

Sight unseen, I'd probably try the 3M remover -- clay, in my opinion, certainly won't hurt your cause.

We used Kerosene at a car wash in Phoenix I worked at 35 years ago. It was great for tar and bugs. Most cleaner/removers are petroleum based. Kerosene was cheaper and better. I would wax the area after.

I used the 3M and it took the most stubborn spots off in seconds. That stuff is great! I followed up with clay and NXT and it looks like they were never there. Thanks for the tip RP. Now the only thing left to do is kick myself in the **** for wasting all that time with WD-40 when 3M would have done the job so much easier and quicker.

I am glad it's not just me that think 4x4 stickers look ugly! Why need to advertise the 4x4 when it should be obvious that the truck is!
