it was scratched, then i wet sanded with 600 grit, and now i dont know what else to do ??

Wow... just realized you said SIX-HUNDRED grit. Not looking good here bud...

 

why not just use a sand blaster next time! lol

Now you gotta re-paint that sucker

 

You could try some finer sand paper and keep working your way up to 1500 grit, then buff it out.If your lucky you can get the area outside of the emblem to shine.It shouldn't be as noticeable with the emblem in place.

 

Good thought... I'm just really worried that he may have already removed too much clearcoat with the 600 -- it looks very scuffed up (not light) -- by going with more sandpaper, he might get to the color coat. Find the color coat w/ sand paper = repaint.

Maybe it's time to really give it some elbow grease around the outer edges with a nice compound to attempt to salvage the situation?

06 harley davidson emblems are going to go in its place... and although they cover most of it up, they dont cover it all...

By the pictures, it looks as if the tailgate has been repainted before. You can see the paint line around where the old emblem was. Unfortunately the only way to repair this is to repaint the tailgate.

I'm sure you can re-paint just that spot, but you will see tape lines and pretty much look like hell. Your best bet is to repaint the hole tailgate unfortunately. Wet sanding takes a lot of skill and experience as I learned as I tried it once myself (thank god not on my truck) and when wet sanding goes bad (in this case) the fix is to repaint.

 

I'm not a paint guy but, I'm nearly certain that to keep it looking 'right' on the truck that you're going to have to repaint the panel.

 

In order to repaint, you'd have to do the whole section line to line to make it look right. Now, there are some (*some*) paintless dent removal guys who do touch ups that can airbrush quite well that could 'possibly' make it look alright.

If I were you (and I'd have never done this, but I won't flame you for it) I would get some 1000 grit and smooth it out *lightly* Then get some 1500 grit and again, *lightly* go over it to a smooth finish. Whip out a high speed with a foam pad and some light cut and see if you can't smooth it out. If you are not skilled in the high speed department, don't try it yourself, you'll F it up even more. After the high speed, you'll be able to tell what its going to look like and if you proceed or repaint
