Tire dressings.

Whats the best tire dressing out there?
I've been using this stuff called Black Magic only to discover that it flys off the tires and gets all over the side of the truck. Its a real bear to get off to!

There are several good ones but, nearly all of them will require a 'last step' to prevent sling... In fact, being that fling is a problem with nearly every product on the market under the right circumstances, I suggest this:

Spray your product on (or apply with an applicator (like the Eagle One Tire Swipe -- which I love)), allow it some dwell time and plenty of dry time. Follow with the same EO swipe (or a junk terry towel) and blot off the excess paying special attention to the areas around the lettering and/or other raised/recessed areas on the tire.

This will minimize your sling. Also, just to keep that EO swipe cleaner, make sure you properly clean your tires before applying a dressing of any flavor.

Preferences are kind of like toliet paper -- everyone has a favorite butt product... for me, I use and love Meguiar's Hyper Dressing (2:1). Othre products that make my list include Meguiar's #40 and Meguiar's Endurance High-Gloss gel.

Slingage, typical. I have found though (this isn't really cost effective for the common homewasher) that if you can rig up an air gun, like a paint sprayer, the atomization of the tire shine will make it stick to the tire much better, and has little or no sling.

Turtle Wax Tire Wax wont fling at all, not one drop or spec, and looks more natural clean, brand new rubber-like then a ringing wet tire out of a pond. My friend had to force me to try it, but once I did, I'll never use anything again. Say goodbye to fling forever!

EDIT: I hit speeds of 120mph+ weekly and no fling or no special preparation needed, lol.

Say what? I don't get what you're on about? You don't believe it doesn't fling? Well it doesn't. Been using it for almost a year now and yes, I've hit speeds in the area of 140mph before and not a spec of fling, lol.

If you can get your hands on this stuff you will want to make love to it (not really) It is made by ZEP chemicals and it is called Tireless Shine. We use it at my dads detailing shop and as long as you let it dry for a reasonable amount of time it wont fling (noticably) and this crap will blind you like none other. People who come and buy this stuff never go back to any other tire product.

I have been using "Stoner's More Shine Less Time" on my tires and wheel wells and it does a great job BUT the overspray gets everywhere. If you use this stuff in any kind of breeze it gets all over your paint and windows.

I had some Armor All tire foam laying around that I got on sale and it does a great job with no over spray or sling. From now on I am sticking to tire foam or gel.

I'm once again with RP. Mine is the Meg.s endurance gel. I put it on before bed, and by morning, no worries. And, though I mow lawns for a living, I still have shiny tires. Grass seems no not want to stick after a long enough dry time. But, that's just my experience.

Another vote for Meguiar's Hot Shine. It lasts a long time and I have never noticed any of it flinging off on my paint.

Isn't that stuff a spray, or am I mixing 2 products up?
I personally like the gels b/c they have NO overspray, and I don't have enough garage space to detail in the garage. Therefore, wind takes tire shine EVERYWHERE. Plus, my wheels don't really like the tire sprays.

But, if you're set into the product, and you don't like overspray, try spraying it onto an Eagle One Tire Swipe, or a towel, and wiping on. This creates that perfect look, which you can vary according to how shiny you like your tires, and there is no mess to clean up.

Been using this for years. Never noticed any of it slinging onto my paint before either. Good stuff.

Great advice -- I bought premiumautocare.com's full supply of EO Swipes when they dropped the Eagle product line (merged with autopia's store). I love EO Swipes and have preached about them for years here...

As for overspray -- another good point. Sprays can yield blotchy paint. For this reason, I always hold off on my last wipe down with a good 'QD' until AFTER I do the wells and tires... gels are a nice choice if you want to totally nip it in the bud... again, I recommend the EO Swipes with the Gel products.

And, finally, yes... Hot Shine is a spray product.
