Possible chrome damage?

Any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried Mother's chrome polish, but it wasn't the right thing to use. RP have you seen this before? Were you able to fix it?

Thanks for any help.

Ive had similar looking spots on an old Ranger, try using barkeeps best friend.
its a powder kinda like comet, comes in a gold can you should be able to find it a jewel or dominicks by the cleaning supplys. I just sprinkeld on the powder and sprayed it with a little windex, scrubbed it with a sponge and it worked great. It even took the rust off of some old chrome American Racing wheels..
hope it works for ya.
