Today's Detail, 2005 Escape..6 + hours ..
Vehicle is a 2005 ford Escape, with about 18k on the clock .. Owner iwas looking for some help with the paint on his Escape. Since time was short, this was an exterior, paint only job.
Process:
- Wash with Meguiar's Gold Class
- Wheels done with Meg's wheel brush
- Clay.. and clay.. and clay.. and clay.. (you get the idea)
Used Meguiar's Mild Detailing clay, and QD for lube (over two bottles of QD)
- DCPC on the hood
- Meg's # 80, PC, 8006 pad @ 5.0 speed x 2 on the hood
- Meg's #26, PC, 9006 pad @ 3.5 speed, removed by hand
- Meg's Hot Shine High Gloss Tire Spray
total time on this detail was a little over six hours .. I have been doing this for over 25 years, and the hood on this SUV was as badly in need of claying as any I have ever seen .. I actually found my self wishing I had picked up some agressive clay.
I spent almost three hours claying this vehicle, almost two hours on the hood alone. the current owner bought this truck used, and it was obvious that the original owner had done nothing to take care of the paint. There was a tremendous amount of overspray, tree sap, road tar and some other things that I was unable to identify.
Didn't have time to take a ton of pictures, due to time constraints on both ends .. but here is what I did manage.
Here is a shot of the hood, AFTER washing
and a close up of all of the junk on the hood paint
.
.
Now for some after shots
remember the hood ?
and finally, a nice reflection shot off of the hood..
There are a few more pics in my gallery .. if anyone is interested ..
a fun day, but now I am off to have a beer ..
