I would think that the oscillations might be a bit tight... plus, not sure how you'd secure a polishing pad to it to do an adequate job.

I'd have to vote to not try it and stick with proven technology.

I would guess you could attach the polishing pads with the attachment shown below. I'm thinking about this because this sander came with the combo power tool package I got and my truck is in SERIOUS need of some exterior help.

RP, when you say the oscillations might be too tight, what exactly do you mean.... not 'random' enough?

That's kind of what I was getting at by my oscillations comment. It's much too tight of a movement as the head is small.

I don't know man... I'd be pretty worried that I'd do more bad than good. That's just me though.

I hear ya RP... I didn't get the sander with the intention of using it on my truck, just thought it'd be a nice bonus if it would.

Right now my truck is an outside truck (no garage yet ) and has water spots, pretty heavy swirling and light scratches in the clear coat. Being that it stays outside all the time, shoud I even bother trying to go the PC polishing route, or just wait a couple years till I have a garage and get a brand new paint job??

get a PC and go to work on it .. you will be able to improve its current condition, and then keep it there ..

no reason to let it go downhill just because it sits outside..

My Trans Am sat outside for the entire two years I lived in Maryland (no garage), was a 3,000 mile a month daily driver, yet it still won numerous awards at shows for best paint ..

Having no garage doesn't make it impossible to keep up with it .. just a little harder. Definately worth the time and effort, imo.

plus .. it is fun

Easy answer... get a PC.

Once you do a little work and get the truck back to par, it's very easy to maintain it from that point forward -- even being an outside truck.

The PC 7336 is on closeout at Lowes for $59. I picked one up the other day. But I had a hard time finding one. Even if a store has one in stock, it wont show on the website. Call a local Lowes and ask them to do a store search for Item #: 51472. That's how I found mine. The store I got mine at has two left @ $59 (Bethlehem, PA).

Wow, $59 is a great price!! I stopped by our local Lowes and found the PC 7336 for $77. Still a pretty good deal IMO so I picked up the 2nd to last one they had. I've got some detailing gear on order, so I should be good to go by next weekend!
