I just ordered the G100 with the backing plate and a 8006 pad promotion from ADS. I also got some #80, #83, #7, 2 each of the 7006, 8006, and 9006 pads, a 6 pack of microfiber bonnets, M26 hi tech yellow wax and 3 supreme shine microfiber towels. I already have the clay kit and some NXT wax and some of the NXT Car Wash. Should this be all I need and are the amounts of things I ordered enough, at least to start with? Thanks in advance.

 

You should be all set for a while.

 

couple of things I would add are:

- a few more mircofiber towels . you will run through them pretty quickly.

- something to wash and dry with .. a good lambs wool mitt for washing and some waffle weave towels for drying ..

- unless you have some major defects, I would only use the 7006 pads as a backer for the bonnets .. the pad by itself is too harsh for minor issues, in my opinion.

also .. if you are going to use the bonnets to remove wax .. pay attention when you are removing the #26 .. a carnuba like that hs the potential to cause the bonnet to load up, and could cause some micro marring.

sounds like you are ready to go .. post some before and after pics when you are done.

 

I do have a couple wash mitts and waffle weaves as well as some more microfibers already from before I joined this site and started buying all kinds of stuff. The more I am on here the more stuff I keep buying for the Screw. Thanks for your help.

 

I would not use #83 with the PC. It is a bear to work with and not much for results. That was my experience and a few others would agree. I do like #80 and have had good with results with it.

Wow, you got a lot of good stuff to work with. #80 is super versatile and leaves a beautiful finish in many cases, especially on darker colored vehicles. I've used way more #80 than #83 over the years, but #83 does come in handy at times. In addition to suggestions from others, the only thing you might want to consider adding if haven't ordered yet is some #21 (synthetic sealant). #7 looks great because of all the oils, but it doesn't last very long unless is locked down underneath something. #26 on top of #21 is a very nice combo that gets you the best of both worlds (sealant + nuba).

I'd hold off on the #83 use until you get the hang of the PC. Personally, I've found that #83 may be a tad too abrasive for use with the PC as it doesn't seem to break down very well.

I've experimented with 83 under a variety of conditions with the PC and simply struggle to get it to come out with top notch results -- I typically mar the finish quite a bit and end up backtracking to remedy a new problem.

Like qad, I'm a HUGE fan of a nice carnauba on top of a synthetic. For this reason, NXT and #16 continues to be one of my favorite combos - especially on dark colors.

I'd snub the bonnets -- I just find that they're not good in most circumstances and really introduce a big possibility to damaging your paint while removing the product -- mainly due to bonnet loading.

#16 is no longer sold in the US due to VOC issues, but it's still sold in other countries (i.e. Canada). It's a hard wax and it really lasts a very very long time (like Collenite waxes). It will definitely outlast #26, but #26 is easier to work with. #16 should be put on real thin, otherwise it's a bear to get off. eShine.ca still sells #16. They have an unadvertised sale on #16 on the 16th of every month. If you're looking for #16, then don't forget to check their price on the 16th if you're looking for a deal.

I've been hoarding cans of #16 for well over a year now. Luckily, I've even had a can given to me recently as well (thanks again -- you know who you are!).

I have 'several' cans at this point...

Hey qadsan -- tried 3Ms Perfect-It Paste (the old stuff)? I *really* like it as well. Found a couple of cans at my local Napa on closeout for $2.50 each!

I emailed Rick at ADS and he is switching out one of the 7006 pads for me with another 9006. I still have the bonnets and #83 coming. I will try those on something besides my truck to see what I want to do with them.

I also have a can of #16 laying around somewhere although I don't know if it is any good anymore after the Texas summers stored outside. Would that be better to use than something like #26 over the NXT?

 

#16 vs. #26

16 is definitely more durable IMO. It's also a bit more difficult to work with -- not very difficult though.

The key to 16 is ULTRA-THIN coats with little overlap.

If your 16 is good, I'd go with it.

I agree with trying #80 and polishing pads first. But, in my experience I have found that #83 is really not that hard to use. Go over to Meguiars on-line and read this thread.

I have done all four of my families vehicles and had to use 83 on all of them. Keep in mind I only used it on the really bad places. Like the water spots the dealer installed on the hood and top of my brand new F-150. IMHO #83 has a place in my G100/PC detailing line up. Just know you're going to need a pass of #80 behind it.
