Exclamation i need help to properly remove the stupid dealer sticker

hey guys,

i just bought a used 98 F150 from a small local independant dealer. They slapped on what seems to be a hard-core sticker with thier name, but put it in the worst possible place. (to the left of the ford symbol on the right side of the tailgate) I hate it, its floating in the middle of the tailgate. I didnt think to ask them to remove it, nor do i think they would have, the truck wasnt even detailed when i picked it up. thats fine because i'm in a two day process of cleaning the inside right now, and i know i am doing a better job than they ever would.

but how can i get this sticker off without peeling the paint or doing something to make the tailgate look worse? i read in a post back from the year 2000 (thats so old) that 3M makes an adhesive remover, but how do i get that behind the sticker to remove it? Its not a raised logo or anything, its a flat pretty hard feeling sticker, so i cant do that fishing line trick i read about to saw it off. i hope you guys have some ideas, i need to get it off!!!!

thanks,
John

Yeah, use a hair dryer to loosen up the glue.
Since you are in the Buffalo area, I recommend doing this inside a garage or waiting until spring.

Pressure washer (close range) at a car wash will remove the decal also. It will leave the glue behind.....just remove glue with Goo Gone.

I carefully used a razor blade on mine and something to remove the "sticky".

My dealer is a fanatic about those stickers. I removed mine when I brought the truck home the first time. It had to go back for badges, they put another sticker on. I promptly removed it. It had to go back for tires, they put another sticker on. I removed it once again. I changed dealers.

HAHAHA... I suppose I am an exception to most rules on a lot of things...

I told my salesman that I would consider buying the truck if they'd remove the dealer logo on the tailgate BEFORE I signed the papers.

Ironically, the decal was off of the truck in about 7 minutes (time to roll it back to the shop and peel it off). Signed the papers and, well ... it's in my garage still...

When I have something gooey on my paint, such as sticker residue, I start basic, and work my way up. It's all according to what kind of glue they use. I try WD-40 first, then PB blaster, maybe diesel, then airplane gasoline. Those are all safe for paint.

If none of those work, I usually break out the carb cleaner. Carb cleaner is awesome about removing scratches, scuffs, stickey stuff, overspray paint, glue, etc. For some reason, it doesn't hurt factory clearcoat if you use it carefully. But it'll eat just about anything else. Just wipe it on fast, and off fast, and you'll never have a problem. I've used it for years.

or you can do like my body shop friend told me.....plain old rubbing alcohol....right off the shelf. i had tried to remove the glue from a leer top with goo-gone to no avail. he told me he had some 3m at the shop but if i wanted to try to get it off before driving to his shop, use alcohol. IT WORKS!

Same here, they made it a part of vehicle preparation. like they removed them all the time.
