I saw that one yesterday but I decided on the Mothers instead. Give it a whirl and tell us how it works.

It cant be that bad... nothing you couldnt fix at least. If you dont want to take the risk than go with the Mothers I had great results and it only took me around 2 hrs.

What exactly is a clay bar used for? What is the best one to get, is there anything to be careful about? Does it remove wax?

The mothers kit actually uses spray on wax as the lube, and the clay takes off any junk stuck on the clear coat ex. tar, sap, bugs. Run your hand over the paint, if you feel little bumps all over its time to clay. Afterwards the paint will be as smooth as glass. Different people like different products so as far as the best goes i couldnt tell you. I personally wax the week or two after i clay. hope this helps

A clay bar removes BONDED contamination that doesn't normally come off with a standard wash. In short, once you've washed your painted surfaces... run your hand over them. Feel those bumps and little specks of stuff? That's what it'll remove.

Your paint should feel like clean glass... NO bumps or specks.

Clay is part of proper preparation -- which any true detailer will tell you is the absolute most critcal part of any detail. It prepares the paint for polishing and helps create a more optically perfect surface.

It can remove some wax and, as such, I only recommend claying if you're going to go through a full detail... or, at a minimum, going to be rewaxing.

I will go out on a limb here and say that I think waxing will be required for the Liquid Clay thing...

By the way, this isn't a new concept... Diamondite has had this type of product out on the market for years and years and years... it's not too highly respected within the detailing community because...well... it doesn't work worth a flip.

You can read what the others have already said about what clay barring actually does. I will speak of the results. I spent almost 5 hours clay barring my truck a couple weekends ago and I was never more impressed with a product in my life. Prior to using the clay bar my hand would stick to and skip across my paint, after the clay bar it was as smooth as a baby's you know what. It is very time consuming, but well worth it in the end and the one hint I will give you is make sure you use plenty of lubricant that comes with the kit. As RP already mentioned I would not do this unless oyu are giving your truck a full detail. I ended up spending over 8 hours on my truck the day I did mine.
