Removing the Black Paint from the Chrome F150 Emblem

While I was pressure washing my truck, I ended up peeling some of the black F150 paint off the chrome on both the driver, and passenger side. I was wondering how can I remove the rest of the black paint. I would like to have it all chrome. The ford dealer redecalled it after I hit a deer, but it still peeled off again. I tried some acetone that I purchased from advanced auto parts and it didn't work. I put some acetone on a Q-tip and tried rubbed it over the black paint, but it didn't work. Is there a trick to it or a different kind of remover to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried paint thinner? It's kinda hard to get paint off of chrome without messing up the chrome underneath...

I haven't tried paint thinner yet, that will be next. Would the paint thinner hurt the chrome?

Wink

Use a hot water pressure washer. Works like a charm and does not harm the chrome. Did all three of my emblams in about 5 mins.

Cool thanks. My in-laws have a steam cleaner pressure washer. That would probably work wouldn't it.

I'd be exceedingly careful with any method...

I know that the emblems, at one time, could be acetoned to remove the 'black'...

Any of the methods described here -- including mine -- should be done with a VERY steady hand so that you don't potentially damage the surrounding paint and/or blow the emblem off of the truck.

yes scrub... and it was in the sun so the thinner was drying quickly... I didn't take them emblems off... instead i did like RP said and used a steady hand... and had a towel close by to catch a drip... I think they turned out great

I ended up using a product called Stripper, found at walmart. That stuff is awesome. It's thick. I applied with a small paint brush and let stand for about 10-15 minutes and then paint just peeled right off with a towel. Now what could I use to polish the chrome up. Can I use mothers chrome polish.
