RP,
Just a few words of advice here. First, the quality of the undercoating product you use here is critical. I stick with 3M brand stuff because I've never had a problem. (Some store brand stuff has failed me.) They also make a rubberized version. Second, make sure to really shake the can well. This stuff tends to settle out really bad. Third, make sure the area you're spraying is VERY clean. I wouldn't even rule out a light wet sanding. If it isn't clean, rocks will take this stuff right off. (Ask me how I know that.) Finally, beware, the undercoating solves one problem, but creates another. The rough surface is a magnet for dirt. If you think keeping a painted surface clean is hard ... Good luck!

As applied (out of the can), it's dull - and traps dirt. On one of my previous trucks, I had some really good luck with waiting a few weeks for the undercoat to fully cure, then painting it over with gloss black Rustoleum. Believe it or not, it not only solved the rock chipping problem, but the dirty surface / hard to wash problem too.

Just my quick 0.02 cents about the "paint on" bed liner. I purchased a kit of the "herculiner" paint on bed liner when I bought my truck and applied it. Up until about a year ago I had a tonneau cover on bed year 'round. Since I have been moving and utilizing my truck more I have had the cover off. The pain on liner is wasting away very quickly! My bed looks like crap now and the original paint is slowloy becoming exposed. As my bed doesnt see alot of "tough" hauls in it, just furniture and what not, I would imagine the wheel wells would take a significant beating with the elements. So, in closing, I would definately stay away from the paint on bed liner for the wheel wells.
