You don't need to wait. You only need to wait after you apply NXT. Depending on temp., humidity, etc., you will need to wait up to 12 hours after you apply the NXT before you can put on another coat or do a carnauba wax.

Thanks again!

It wasn't half as bad down here as it was up in Dallas. I was talking to my family up in Dallas and apparently schools were closed, roads were blocked, roofs torn off, etc. It was just one of those typical storms down here.

I know about the roads...I closed one... Fortunately, my house was out of the worst part, and I managed to keep my roof.

In response to your question, txfdfx4, I am in the Fort Worth area, and Firefighter13 is in the Brazos/College Station area. are you familiar with either of these places??? I see you live in TX...

I'm at Eagle Mountain VFD and EMS. Many of mis amigos work at Fort Worth Fire, Arlington, Saginaw, Azle, and a few here and there in other departments.

But I'm no Lieutenant. I'm a measely FF, EMT trained (not certified), and NASAR type II certified.

You have what's called an ionization-type alarm. what it does is it shines a light at a photovoltaic cell and 'sees' what's in the air. It's method is if it's too nasty, it must be smoke, and it goes off. (the problem is that steam can 'clog' the air and the light can't get through to the cell, and the voltaic cell switches the circuit closed, making the alarm. It only shines the light when the light that you can see is on (ie: they're on for a second, off for 5 or so...etc) These are great for residences because they're cheap and pretty fool-proof. They worl like the garage door sensor that keeps the garage from closing on something.

There is another kind, which it's name escapes me, but it works on a chemical reaction. When the smoke gets into the reactor, it either undergoes a reaction, and a chemical-voltaic cell initiates the alarm, or (if not smoke), it remains the same. The element inside was invented in America and, conveniently enough is called Americium. (or is it americum???) They tend to detect CO2 and CO. Some can also detect heat (by using a thermo-voltaic cell or a thermal switch)

Lastly, though not an alarm, the sprinklers you see in buildings work on heat. When the heat of the liquid gets to a certain temp, the glass breaks (that's the red stuff in the middle) and the pipe is open, allowing the water that is inside to flow. These are attached to the city/county water supply.

And everybody knows how the 'break glass to sound alarm' or the 'pull handle to sound alarm' type alarms function...

That help?

Man-- I know way too much. I guess it goes without saying that I was a nerd in my school, and I graduated in the top 10% out of 350... any Chemistry questions??? I can do those, too...
