I have a White truck brand new and im trying to decide between these two setups, or if you would like to change it make the necciasary changes................ **ALL WILL BE APPLIED BY HAND**

Totally megs: I would tend to follow this kind of procedure for a new truck.

1. Wash - Gold Class Car Wash is good. USe the two-bucket method, and try and get a Grit Guard or two for the buckets.

2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay Kit.

3. Clean - Deep Crystal #1 for general cleaning, ScratchX for any swirls, light scratches.

4. Polish - Deep Crystal #2

5. Wax - #21 Synthetic Sealant, but you could use Nxt Tech Wax, or Gold Class wax, #26 Hi-Tec Yellow Wax.

6. Wax - 2 thin coats of wax are best.

 

ok, here is a process i would suggest.

1. Wash with NXT or Gold Class soap
2. Clay with meguiars smooth surface
3. deep crystal paint cleaner
4 Use a polish such as meguiars Deep Crystal #2
5. NXT Wax
6. Meguiars #26


I guess you could switch out the NXT for #21 if you wanted too.
I have used the above process with great success.

 

Do I use the same wax from 5 to 6 or a different?

 

I don't think it would be a good idea to skip the paint cleaner. As you know everything will stick better to clean paint. I wouldn't skip that step if it were me.

 

If I use this in this order to re-wax do I just add another coat of the #26 or do I need to strip all off? If I do need to strip all off could I use the
Ultimate Quik Detailer until I strip all off and redo?

 

No you don't have to strip it all off. You just need to maintain. The Quick detailer would do fine.

 

i guess you are right, but his paint should be pretty clean without it.

 

If you're going to use a sealant, (e.g.) #21 or NXT Tech Wax, then you would have to wait a minumum of 12 hours before you would apply a carnuaba based wax as a LSP or last step process.

The sealant needs time to cure or adhere itself to the paint, before you would apply the wax.

Keep posting if your not sure. I'm new to the detailing processes myself. I've gotten a lot of help in order to have enough confidence built up to help others. I really enjoy it though. I work second shift so I'm always up late.

 

Not sure why Rusty went down the road that he did... you never even mentioned half of the products that he mentioned and you were dead on with your earlier assessments... there's absolutely NO reason to overkill something when you *WILL* achieve great results with less steps -- keep in mind, you're dealing with BRAND NEW paint...anyway...

knighj1 -- you're on the right track and really, the waters got a bit muddied as this thread progressed.

Odds are, you *WILL NOT* need the paint cleaner. The cleaner simply is not a necessity pending that the lot monkeys don't get their paws on your vehicle (if I were you, I'd call ahead and tell them to keep their hands off of it -- I'd even have them leave the plastic on the seats and such -- that's just me though). It's an unnecessary step -- it's that simple. NXT has a light cleaner in it if *others* really think that things will *stick* better... :rollseyes:

NXT or #21 -- it's really a preference. I believe you'll find that #21 will yield slightly longer durability over the NXT. Either are fine though.

I wouldn't snub your Collinite idea. Frankly, I think it's a GREAT idea and it *WILL* outlast #26. I'll be totally honest with you -- I've never used 845 over 21 and would be EXCEEDINGLY interested to hear what you think about it. 845 is simply an awesome hard wax that is tried and true. I'm thinking I have a remaining 'sample size' bottle somewhere around here that I need to dig out and tinker with it myself. It's one of those products that got lost in the shuffle... I definitely love the product though.

So, in closing, if you have any light paint problems -- odds are that you won't considering that you're going to be <100 miles in when you get it. Keep with your clay idea (that's essential). If you have any light problems, go with NXT -- if not, stick with #21. Apply either product two coats thick. Allow a minimum of 12 hours of cure time between with either of those two products.
