1st Detailing - '07 Lariat

Well,
My shoulder is about to fall off as I write this..... Finished my first detailing, after picking up my new 07 Lariat last week. I had only 4 hours so by using the combined knowledge of this forum, I tried to use some common sense in picking what steps I should do.

1. Washed.. 2 bucket method - Meguiars Deep Crystal Car Wash
2. Microfiber dried.. pulled it into the garage and took an ice tea break.
3. ClayBarred the car using Meguiars SmoothSurface Clay Kit and Detailing Spray.
4. 2-3 swirly spots in the paint were found. Buffed out with NuFinish Polish.
5. Applied Meguiars Deep Crystal Carnauba.
6. Contemplating applying another coat tomorrow if the shoulder feels better.

So I skipped using a polish on the whole car or any type of "cleaner" wax like NXT. I assumed since the paint is so new (had 18 miles when i bought it last week - Manufactured April 07), that I could skip this step.

I guess I'm satisfied with the results. I can't really see getting a deeper color then what you'll see in the following photos, but I'm very open to any suggestions for the future.

SideNote: I've been reading the various posts on "Orange Peel" and really didn't understand it till I looked closer at the paint. Oh Brother do I NOW understand what people mean. The paintspray nozzle at the Dearborn Plant went positively FLORIDA on my car. Oh well... it's comforting to know that all Fords are afflicted with this paint disease.

Safe bet, but NXT isn't a cleaner wax. It does have some VERY mild cleaners in it, but not nearly the amount as are found in a true 'cleaner wax'. Either way, the truck looks great.

As is always true, just ask if/when you have a question. We'll all be happy to provide insight/tips. I will say this, though--I'm probably going to hunt you down and take your truck. I like it. (J/K. I wouldn't do that. To you. )

Next time you're planning a detail, post something, and we'll help out more. Nobody wants to tell you that they would have changed somthing when your truck looks this good. Also, I'm pretty sure your arms won't like it if they are forced to do it again. But it sure beats the gym, doesn't it???!!!

Again, looks great, keep it up, and let us know if you have any more questions!

Gosh man... we've all put about 3 or 4 hours in to you a piece... HAHAHA! Surely you have some idea...

Really, Pinnacle, Wolfgang, Meguiar's, Duragloss, Aquaman, Collinite, or Billy Bob's Perfect Cowgut Wax...

Pick one, stick with it, use it often... you'll be impressed.

Give it to me. I'll be glad to detail it. But don't expect to get it back any time soon...

J/K. As RP said, I'd be willing to bet that it just seems daunting now...Once it's here it'll be easier because you'll remember all the Meg.s scripture RP read you when you were but a young Patewan...

Tell you what, man, that addition makes the truck look better and better every time you repeat the step. That said, Don't dink (too terribly much) and try to operate a rotary at the same time. Maybe one after another, but not simultaneously...just like the no open contsainers laws..

Very nice job... sorry man. I forgot to say that in my first post because I found knighj's amusing and forgot...

The NXT wouldn't have been a bad choice. Some may call NXT a cleaner wax on occasion - me included - but, the bottom line is that the cleaners in NXT are so mild that you could use it just about every day of the year and really suffer absolutely no adverse effects. No problem though... it turned out sharp.

If I were you, I would go with the second coat of step #3.... maybe even a couple of coats. You remember how easily it comes off so, no worries in trying -- although, I can't attest to the condition of your shoulder!

(hint: get a PC!)
