Talking Wasn't This Clean in the Showroom

This morning I completed my first all-out exterior detailing of my 2006 F150 XLT Screw. The process:

1) Washed with Meg's Gold Class car wash
2) Dried with Microfiber
3) Clayed with Meg's clay and Meg's Quick Detailer
4) Washed again and dried
5) Polished with Meg's Deep Crystal Polish
6) Rinsed and dried
7) Waxed with NXT liquid wax
8) Finished with Meg's Quick Detailer

I used an orbital buffer for steps 5 and 7. Next weekend (weather permitting and if the feeling has returned to my shoulders and arms), I intend to add a second coat of NXT and a final coat of Meg's Carnauba wax.

Used 20/20 on the glass and Black Magic on the tires.

This is pretty much the same method I used on my wife's Camry a few weeks ago if any of you saw that thread.

Nice work, man! It just goes to show what solid products, along with a solid plan of action, will yield as a final product. Killer work! Thanks for sharing!

Cool

A few more:

By the way, it was about 164 degrees in Raleigh yesterday, with a heat index of about 207.

Thanks guys. After seeing Rock Pick's latest work, I may need to learn how to detail the engine compartment next.

Exclamation

Obviously, I am exaggerating a little, but not much. I think it was about 94 or so, heat index a little over 100. I am a big guy (around 305 lbs) and I lost about 15 pounds yesterday. I drank about 8 bottles of water, and yet when I came in to go to the restroom, I squeezed maybe 1/4 cup. I got dizzy and light headed every time I bent over. It was brutal. I doubt I'll detail it in August, if June is any indication.

Unfortunately, my home does not have a garage. So, I was out in the sun. I started early, around 6:30 am, but it takes forever to clay such a large vehicle, and this is only my second time doing it. By the time I applied the polish, it was about 10 am. On the roof of the truck, it was starting to get a little thick ( and I put it on a little too heavy also) by the time I got up there to take it off around 10:30. I figured it wouldn't be a good idea to try to wax it in the direct sunshine during the middle of the day, so I knocked off for a while, grilled some burgers for lunch, and went back outside around 6 pm to do the NXT and finishing touches. Then it rained last night, so I got up this morning and redid the windows and went over the paint with Quick Detailer again.

Looks sharp, man. I really like the grass reflectin shot-- you can ractically count the blades. Very good work.

I'm in the same predicament, though-- No garage, do all the work in the sun. I don't take breaks, but I use a D/A. I reccommend them especially for those of us who must bake in the sun. (Did you get a good tan, though???)

So how do you guys deal with the water spots?

I have a small amount of shade but I hate having to park in the grass to get to it - I actually hate having the grass blades all over the tires. :o
Right now I do the keep the truck wet while washing thingy. Any other tips/tricks to keeping the water spots off or at least to a minimum?

I know what you mean about HOT. I washed and waxed my wife's car today. I think it was in the mid 90 here in Atlanta.
Nice job.

Talking

Did I get a good tan? Yeah, well, sorta.......

I'm tanned from the elbows down, from the knees down, and the back of my neck. My wife informed me this morning that I looked like a great big Candy Cane (red, white, red, white, etc.).

As for water spots, I usually keep the truck wet until I'm done, too. Wash a section, rinse the whole truck, repeat.... I don't worry too much about water spots until I'm on the last rinse, though. I mean, what difference does it make if you have a few water spots when you're getting ready to clay it?
