Has anyone heard of this stuff? The guy that painted my hood swears by it. He is also an automotive guy (works at a chev dealer). He says bugs and tar wont stick to it. Just wondering if it is better than the Megs everyone here seems to be using?

Collinite 845 (AKA: Insulator)is, in my opinion, the most durable carnauba wax on the market. It's fantastic stuff but, it's finicky.

 

Looks like this....will be using it this weekend.

 

I used it couple years ago. Its hard to find. I found a local parts store special orders couple cases in because people request it.

 

Doesn't it seem that all the carnauba's that are more durable are always a little "finicky"? Must have something to do with that "little" extra bit of carnauba. The other Collinite waxes are the same way. My old One Grand Blitz was another one.

 

Could you go into more detail on the the finicky issue and what to expect out of it?

Good stuff. Its inexpensive, looks good and has great durability. I have it on my truck now. Also a bottle will last you a very long time. You have to put in on very thin. Here is a link to thread that talks about it.

For those of you wondering exactly what Collonite Insulator wax looks like on a properly prepared surface, I decided to play crash test dummy for you. Last weekend, I washed (Zaino Car Wash Soap), Clayed, polished (Zaino Swirl Remover with my PC), then waxed (Collonite Insualtor Wax) my 2005 XLT with 62,000 miles on the clock. Here's the results. If it lasts through one of our winters half as good as it looks, I could get hooked.

Thanks for the compliment. (Grasshoppr bows.) I'm a big fan of the Zaino stuff and have used it for several years, but I thought I'd see if something lasted longer for sloppy season. Winters up here in the great white north are brutal. So although the results are impressive, one has to remember that the finish I was working with was in pretty good shape to begin with. I just wish I could find a way to take a picture of Oxford White and do the shine any justice. Notice I resorted to a dusk shot this time.
