My paint rescue project

This is my other vehicle. I'm gonna be trying to rescue the paint with the G-100 and some meg's products. I'm wondering what you guys think I should use, I currently have Megs #2 and am not sure if that is strong enough to get the job done. I do have Turtle wax Premium Polishing Compound, but I am concerned that that is too strong for the job at hand. Input?

The paint is dead. That amount of oxidation is indicative of single stage failure. The best you can accomplish is to make it shine for awhile. It will dull out again as it sits. You have to remove the oxidation before you wax or seal.

I'm afraid if you remove all the oxidation you won't have any paint left.......

There never was any clear to begin with... It's a single stage paint.

Probably single stage.... what year is it? Also, the #2 isn't going to cut that... #83 is where you should start with a polishing (and, dare I say, maybe a cutting pad -- even though they're not recommended for the PC/G-100).

Grr... back to work (not detailing, my real job. )

It's a 93 lx 4 banger that was going to be turned into my drag car, until i got the hankering to buy a 30' camper or a pair of sea-doo's. Now I just wanna get it sorta cleaned up and unload it.

It's right there on the brink between clear and no clear...

When you've waxed it in the past, has the applicator been red?

BTW, don't expect miracles on this one... do you know of a reputable detailer in your immediate area? It may be easier to let the detailer give it a go using rotary methods with the right compounds (read: I'm not sure a PC is going to get this one).... once he gets it where it needs to be, maintenance is a snap from that point forward.

I've never so much as ran a hose over it as far as detailing goes. I'm not afraid to use this as a guinea pig for my learning the proper techniques either. If I fudge it up, oh well, I'm not gonna get a ton of money for it anyway. Believe me, I'm not looking to get it to where I have to do any maintenance on it either lol. As soon as I get enough shine on it to where it looks good as a 30 or 40 footer then I'll stick a For Sale sign on it and put it in the street.

Those dents and chips are going to stand out a lot more if you have any success with getting it to shine.

i don't know guys...look at the grill...there looks like there was something more than single stage paint....or they are just stains but it almost looks like the grill was at lease painted with clear....I don't know hard to tell.

The grill is plastic - if I'm not mistaken that uses a different paint system than the metal body. If not, there's the possibility it was repainted in the past without a proper strip and prep job and it's the "new" paint peeling off.

Good eye on the grill... my suspecion is that the paint is cleared but, it's still a tough call.

As for the grill... maybe a third-party pre-painted the part for FoMoCo prior to it landing on the assembly floor... just playing devil's advocate here. Tough call...

Is it safe to assume that you're just wanting to give it a tad of 'pop' to sell it? If so...any 'cleaner wax' will put a little bit of gloss on it to attract the would be 'sucker', I mean buyer, driving down the road.
