New car - skip the polish???

I know this has been asked before and I have searched, but I'm exhausted after going to the mudbowl Steeler game last night, getting home at 1:30 and getting back up for work after what seems like 10 minutes of sleep. We picked up an 08 Vista Blue Mustang about a week ago. It's been sitting snug in the garage about 4 days straight now after washing and claying it. The paint, minus the orange peel, is perfect. I planned on doing a very detail, but time has been so dang short lately. Satisified with how the finish is currently, do or should I worry about polishing it before I go straight to wax? Again, sorry for the repetitive question.

If you have already clayed it and there is no micro marring that you can see, why not pure polish it and deepen the color, then drop some wax on that baby and you are good to go.

Now is the time to be taking good care of your new ride from the start.

There are great pure polishes out there.

Just run a QD over it and tape it off and go to town.

Cheers and since I responded to your question, its F150online forum law that you have post photos.

Dang, I thought I could slide one by No pics yet, just fuzzy cell phone pics and that'll just get me into deeper trouble. Could be awhile for the pics, it's all taped up with paper on the mirrors and cowl.

Deep down I knew I should polish it and get it off on the right foot. Looks like I'll be taking a work from home day this week, detailing is 'work' in some circles, right?

Abiding the law here are the overdue pics.

Starting off with the wheels. 170 miles and already mucked up.

I guess I'll need to post up some pictures of my new car than .. I just did Clay, #80, and a coat of NXT. I'll wait 12 hours for another coat of NXT, followed by #26 soon as the 2nd coat of NXT is cured. Neighbors think I'm crazy!

Wasn't a hard detail, just time consuming. Had a few smudges and fine scratches. Scratch X took care of those. Had some dealer stickers to remove, each letter was an individual sticker, idiots. On the wheels it was clay, 83, 7, then 845. On the body clay, 7, NXT paste, then 845 - all by hand. 303'd the black trim. Used some old hot wheels or something in the wells. High Endurance on the tires. Hopefully this 845 lasts through the winter.

Thumper -- what color did you go with on your GT? I haven't seen a picture of it yet, but I've been busy with other stuff and haven't been on the site a lot lately, so I might have missed it.

Patiently waiting for my '08 GT to get here -- it's been on order since October 19 and I'm chomping-at-the-bit to take a few days off from work to perform my first detail and get my mods installed!

I got a 2008 GT Premium .. It's Black on Black. It's a 5 spd with the 3.55s/LSD. Upgraded interior pkg, appearance pkg, ambient lighting, and a few other little things. I can't wait to get an exhaust system on this car!!

What options did you get? .. What mods do you already have waiting for it!?

I ordered a Grabber Orange Deluxe 5-Speed GT -- I didn't want the Shaker system in mine, so that is why I ordered the Deluxe. The only options I added were leather seats and the satin panel IUP.

Stuff I have waiting in the garage:

- 18" Chrome Deep Dish Bullitts (American Muscle)
- Tri-Bar Pony Center Caps
- BF Goodrich g-Force KDW's -- 255/45 Front & 285/40 Rear
- Magnaflow "Magnapack" Cat-Back System
- Eleanor Front Grille
- Factory Spoiler -- Painted Matte Black
- Factory Plenum Cover
- Factory Trunk Net
- Tri-Bar Pony Floormats
- Tri-Bar Pony Trunk Mat
- Pony Fender & Faux Gas Cap Emblems (I despise the GT emblems)
- Extra Key FOB's

I'm really anxious to hear the Magnaflow system. If it's too tame for my taste, I'll ditch it and put on some SLP Loudmouths. I've heard the SLP's and really like them, but feel they might be just a little more aggressive than what I'm looking for with this car.

I also wanted the 3.55's but they weren't available on the Deluxe in '08 for some reason. Not a huge deal, however, since I'll probably upgrade to 3.73's anyway.

Can't wait until it gets here!
