As for pads, opinions will be varied on this but, I still prefer the old stand-by pads from Meguiar's.
The kits from Auto Detailing Solutions, in my opinion, are pretty fail-safe. While I agree that Coastal's price is a tad better on the PC alone, you're still looking at buying pads, a backing plate which will bring you to approximately the same price as buying a G-100 from ADS. The perk to the G-100 is that it comes with a lifetime warranty whereas the PC 7424 only has a 1-year parts, 90-day labor. In my mind, knowing that the brushes/bearings in the PC will wear out, it's a plus...
That said, I'd consider spending a little more and getting the kit #1 or #2 from ADS.
For the average home user that likes to slick up his vehicle on occasion and certainly isn't doing any hardcore detailing work, my suggestion on pads would be something along the lines of:
2 - Polishing Pads (Meguiar's Yellow)(W8006)
1 - Finishing Pads (Meguiar's Tan)(W9006)
If you want to raise the bar a tad, go with one more of each.
Polishing pads are used for defect removal (swirls, micromarring, oxidation) whereas the finishing pads are used for last step product application or pure-polish application. Obviously, the polishing pads are a bit more abrasive whereas the finishing pads are less abrasive.
I'd look at it this way... the backing plate will cost you around $15. A pad is about $10. Going through Coastal, you're tacking on an immediate $25 (+ S&H) to the $99 PC. So, you're at $125 there with a one-year warranty.
For another $15, you'll get a bonnet, a towel, a Meguiar's bag (don't let this fool you -- it's not a super-duper bag) and, best of all, the lifetime warranty.
Don't get me wrong, the PC74724 for $100 is a fine deal - like I said, that's where I got my first PC - but, for a tad more, you get the lifetime warranty... and these things will wear out over time.

I agree, check out www.autodetailingsolutions.com. I bought my G100 from there, I actually got the Pkg #3. Fast shipping, good customer service, he'll switch out products if you want. I don't recommend any other place.

Its the same machine, just with a Meguiars label, and a lifetime warranty instead of the Porter Cable 1 year warranty.

Like you mentioned in the first post, for light swirl and moderate swirl removal, products like #80 Speed Glaze on a polishing pad (yellow W8006) will almost always do the trick.
If it were me trying to set up a very standard, no frills, setup for my own personal use - no detailing for others - I'd...
1. Snare 2 polishing pads total (the kit comes with one)
2. Snare 1 finishing pad (W9006 -- tan Meguiar's pad).
3. Snare a package of the 16x16 microfiber towels -- 6, or so.
4. Snare a small bottle of #9 from your local Auto Zone or from Rick @ ADS.
Really, all in all, you'd be set for problem removal there.
Now, if you want to step into a pretty decent synthetic wax product, I'd snare a bottle of NXT 2.0 and maybe a bottle of #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax (the #26 is optional).

To add... just noticed that your truck is BLACK.
So, that said, I want to add that you should snag the informational DVD on how to use the G-100. It is another $20 or, whatever but, the information that you can pick up from it will REALLY help you above and beyond what we can offer to you here. Black is a beast of a color to keep up and the little tidbits and tricks that you'll learn from the DVD can help you tremendously... especially on black and trying to do problem removal on black.
