The answers vary based on what tools you have.

I learned today that SSR1 with a Green Lake pad on a FLEX is FANTASTIC....this same set up would make me use SSR3 on a Yellow Lake with a DA to acheive the same results. So with the Flex, you can actually go less agressive.

I would skip the PB 2.5....If getting SSR's, I would make it simple, get 3,2 and 1.

Follow up question, what pads are you using?
I've got the G100. Mainly I just stick with the Megs 8006 polishing pads. #80 works well for me, really cleaning up the swirling but it still leaves some superficial straight line scratches. I've tried the #80 with a Green Lake before; I didn't tell a whole lot of difference, so I've stuck with the Megs pads as it kind of eliminates some variables.

To interject a tad... It shouldn't leave anything like that. If you said 'micromarring', I would've discounted it as dry pad conditions or similar but, straight line are typically QD'ing errors or product removal errors (as you typically move in a straight line when wiping).

In short, I don't think it's the #80 doing it -- I'd say the same thing if you're were using any brand here.

RP, maybe I phrased it wrong. I will get some pictures tomorrow of what I'm talking about...it's hard to explain. All of the fine swirling gets taken care of, but it doesn't get out various random scratches, leading me to think I need a more aggressive polish.

Not trying to jack your thread RR, sorry bout that.

I am curious...you said 80 with a Green Lake yielded no better results? Green is has slightly more cut than a Megs yellow pad.

I think I would have to see the paint you are working before I jump to crazy conclusions which may or may not make sense based on how I feel right now....worn out.

Net is, Going with the SSR's is fine, pad choice is important. IF you have to use SSR3 or SSR2, I would test with a Green Lake first...if that still doesn't fix it, change out to the Yellow Lake. (skip the orange)

If you have to use a Yellow Lake, the finish is jacked up... Anytime you use SSR's you need to step down polish them. Based on my experince, you can step 3 and 2 down with 1....if you use only SSR1 you can step it down with PP or Menzerna even Megs 80...which answers your other question.

I think Menzeran Micro polish is pretty similar to M80 however pad choice and speed, pressure can vary the results. You are dealing with a lot of variables here and this is when knowing the product line is important as RockPick, Gip and Boss have preached for years.

Since I use mainly Lake pads and Poorboys products my results and experience are different.

Your questions make me almost want to come up with a cross reference chart for pad product combo based on defect issue.

Officially i am totally rambling and not sure any of this makes sense b/c I am so freaking tired I am having trouble staying on target here.....maybe I need to push back from the PC tonight and respond again on Sunday.

I would like to see the surface you are dealing with under direct lighting....

Ahh man... I just stole a full set from Outback Steak House last week... I would've have risked jail time if I had known I was going to win a set...

(speaking of winning, I think I'm a lock on my company office bracket pool now! -- I smell more detailing toys -- or, should I say, a 'toy'. I'm not going to count my chickens just yet -- one guy can beat me in the tie breaker).
