If #80 and a DA isn't quite doing the job what do you recommend?

 

I heard #83 but lets get the pros opinion on it.

 

I've heard the same thing. But again..you might want to wait on somebody with a little more experience.

#83 would be the next move up in aggressiveness. It is a little harder to learn how to use compared to #80 but #83 is one of my favorites. On the Meguiars scale it a 6 out of 10. #80 is a 4.

I didn't like using #83 but I think I wasn't working it quite right. You may want to try Menzerna Intense Polish. It is easy to use and does a really good job.

What pad were you using on the DA? What speed were you running, and how much pressure were you applying?

 

Agreed. It does seem to put off a lot of dust.

 

I was new on the PC and therefore not very patient. I think if I tried it again I would do okay. MIP is better to use on the PC in my opinion.

#83 is more aggresive than #80. If used properly #83 works very well in my opinion. You have to understand what is meant by Dual Action Cleaner Polish. It does not mean that it is speacially made for a DA it means that the polish is a cleaner at first but once it breaks down more it will leave a very nice shine. Many have said that it will leave micro marring on black and other dark colors. They most likey either worked it too short or too long. Like I said, if used properly it is a great product in my opinion.

I was really just seeing what the best option was IF I needed more cut. With the paint I have dealt with so far #80 a Megs polishing pad and 10lbs of pressure is working just fine. Thanks for the help though.

 

#80 is a really good product and probably enough for most peoples needs. No sense getting too aggressive if you don't need to. The saying is to start with the least aggressive and go more aggressive if needed.

Well #80 isn't cutting some of my heavier swirls... So next step would be #83 and what pad then? What would you follow up #83 with? #80?

 

#2 i believe is the next step up. its a 5.

 

I had thought that #2 was for rotory use, but I guess not. ADS says that it works with a DA. It looks like it would fall in between #80 and #83.

Honestly, I'd forgo the #2...

While it is a decent product, it tends to dry much quicker and thus, you don't get the overall opportunity that may be needed to provide an adequate cut.

As is true of many products, #83 will be a tad oilier and thus allow you more time to work and properly break down the product so that it does the work that is necessary to yield a great finish.
