They server no purpose but to mate. Like the previous poster said they were man made to control the mosquito population here in Florida. It would of been a great thing if it worked. I'm sure a quick search would yield an answer but I've always wondered why we have a season of them. I never see them when the season isn't here, so where do they go? If they all die out than how do they come back? Do they migrate?
