Scratch/Detailing suggestions?

Hi everyone. I am new here and have been reading posts, etc about detailing but am still pretty clueless about it. To make a long story short, I went out of town last weekend and took the dog along. At some point the dog decided to jump up on several parts of the truck- Door and Tailgate. The claws didn't scratch all the way through though.

I took it to a local car wash and they detailed it great (yes I was lazy) and asked them for suggestions on taking care of the scratches. They said that they could do it for $89. When I heard that I said hell no. I always have the belief of doing things myself no matter how long it takes. My wife will attest.

Anyway, do you all have some suggestions of removing the scratches, etc? The car wash guy said it was like a 3 step process but I wasn't familiar.
If there is a link that is already written please point me in the right direction.

I appreciate any help you can give me!
Rob

Read the sticky at the top of the forum. I'd buy some Scratch-X and rewax the areas you use it on.

So you have the belief in doing things yourself no matter how long it takes but take the car to a local car wash...HMMMM....

Just playing, stick around these forums and you'll learn more than you bargained for. I've been here since January or so of this year and I've learned a ton of stuff. It's funny to think that I thought myself as an expert detailer...HA, boy was I wrong. Welcome to the forums.

Yup - that's like headlight resoration. The shops here wetsand them then paint them with clear. Looks like poo. Following the wetsanding with #85 on rotary wool then PlastX on rotary foam does a LOT nicer job.
