Can you believe this?

Hey guys, been on the site for a while, but this is my first post ouside of GD. Anyway, I'm taking a few days off and I told some guys at work that I might wax my truck. This one older man told me that I shouldn't wax it yet that it should be at least 4 years old before the first wax. I've heard several old timers say that about clear coats, and I was wondering if anyone knew where they might get an idea like that.

1. You can "wax" your truck the day you bring it home.
2. Please read the detailing "sticky". There's a lot more to proper clear coat care than a tin of wax.
3. Even with a repaint, you only have to wait 90 days.

Ok, I think you missed my point. I know you can detail your truck from day one (forgive my use of the term "wax"). I read the "sticky" and the dictionary the first time I was on the site. I printed both of them and have them in a folder for quick reference. I wasn't asking if the old guy was right....I was asking if anyone knew where he got such a silly idea. Sorry if I confused anyone.

I usually try and believe what my elders tell me, until something like this comes along and makes me question myself.

Ok, I'll bite again.

Its probably b/c back in the day the only types of products around were pretty harsh on single stage paint. Paints have come a LOOOONG way, even in the past 10 years.

How's that? Just a guess.

That sounds logical. After my last detail, I kind of wish I could wait 4 years to do it again.

In the old days, if you waited 4 years to wax your car, the paint was already shot.
