'08 Dodge Charger question

OK. I've got a customer bringing me his '08 Charger in the morning. It has the matte black vinyl decals on it. Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm wondering what is safe to use on the vinyl without staining or ruining the matte finish? I'm thinking of trying Opti-Seal on a small spot to see if I like the results.

I'd be very careful around them. I've seen a set ruined before by someone trying to polish them with #80. I've never used Opti Seal so I can't say for that product but be careful.

Hmmmm.... I've never done matte decals, so I'd say tape off and play it safe. I would bet the pruduct would stain the decal and not act nicely, but thats ONLY speculation.

On shiny ones (like the FX4 or Sport decals) I go right over them. No problem. Same for pinstripes.

I'd say you have a good idea there by using opti-seal-- it shouldnt stain from what I can remember. (its the clear spray sealant, right? If so, I've used that a number of times and liked it alright). It should protect yet not offer any problems (*knocks on wood*)

Just stating the obvious for some others who might see this thread and want some more information ... Vinyl decals are much softer than paint. So using a polish on them is going to indefinitely scratch them, IMO, at least from what I've seen in the past. I'd also tape them off to be on the safe side.

I agree. Wash them and them leave them be. Just be sure to tape the edges carefully so they don't lift and cover them to keep any cleaner, polish, and wax off.

OK guys, I solved the problem. Opti-Seal worked great.
