Nufinish Pre-Cleaning '07 F150?

I think I'm going to try Nufinish on my white '07 F150.

As I've been saying since I purchased the truck last summer, I'm not looking for a show-car finish, I just want to protect the paint from the elements (especially the Michigan winter roads).
And since I don't have a heated garage, a spray down at the coin operated wash is the only cleaning my truck sees during the winter months.

Last fall I applied regular Turtle wax...I liked the way the water beaded up and rolled right off, but it only lasted for about 2-3 washes.

This spring I applied Collinite 476S...I'm not pleased with this, the water seems to bead up and just sit there. It's a little better since I've washed the truck three times, but at first the rainwater would just sit there and evaporate. Leaving dirty spot all over the truck.

My question...
Should I use something to remove the rest of the Collinite product? Or will the Nufinish cleaning properties clean it off? Apply a coat now to remove the other wax, and then another coat in 30 days?

Thanks for the advice.
Tim

A nice clean surface to apply the wax on it prime. Go down to the local Wal-mart and there should be a Meguiar's Smooth Surface Claybar Kit. It should be in the neighborhood of $15 or so. The instructions are extremely simple, this will remove the old wax and other "bonded contaminates" off the paint and give the wax a smooth surface (hence the name of the kit) to adhere to.

With that said, have you considered any of Meguiar's other waxes? Namely NXT 2.0. I have used NuFinish and found it to be A. Extremely Hard to work with and B. Not last that long at all. I have a 98 Ford Escort ZX2 as a commuter car and I did a test with Nufinish on the hood and fenders, with NXT everywhere else, and the NXT lasted (beaded, because that is how I judge when to rewax) alot longer than the NUfinish. I also did not see that shine with the Nu Finish. I am not trying to discourage your use of Nu Finish, but rather suggest an alternative.

guitarman502,
What kind of life do you get out of the NXT 2.0?
My main concern is the paint being protected during the winter months when I cannot wax.

um... personally i've gotten a good 2-3 months out of it, at least the beading aspect of it. Meguiar's claims it's their longest lasting wax. Again a variety of factors plays in to how long a wax will last, but both my truck and escort sit outside 24/7. Winter's here in WV start late october, early november and start getting real bad about the middle of december. What I try to do is get a good coat of wax on around early October. Then i stop at the spray and wash once a week and just spray the salt of my truck, no soap, just water. Then around end of january, middle of febuary (just not Valentine's day cause you WILL get in trouble), try to get it washed and put in a garage to put a second coat of wax on. It's not always fesable (I know that's spelled wrong), but it's what I TRY to do. I think you will get good life out of NXT 2.0. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

If you do use NXT 2.0 and don't top it with anything, the use of Ultimate Quick Detailer after washing is supposed to help renew the polymer protection. I'm thinking you MAY be able to catch a decent day every so often during the winter to do this.
