Read the Detailing Sticky. It should answer your question and a lot more.

Everything depends on the state of the paint and how much time/money you are willing to give up.

Consider using a Cleaner wax or Polishing.

It all depends on the severity of your hard water and whether or not it has etched into your paint. For a basic consumer I would suggest clay barring it, Deep Crystal cleaner, cleaner wax (not completely necessary, but also doesn't hurt), then follow it with NXT.

I'm not an expert nor anywhere near but here's what I would do:

Wash with Gold Class
Clay
Rewash
Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner (also referred to as Meg's Step 1)
Meguiar's Deep Crystal Cleaner Wax (Meg's Step 2)
NXT 2.0 (or a wax of your choice)

Make sure you wax your vehicle at the end of your process! By using the clay bar you will strip any previous wax.

If you're doing this all by hand be in store for a bit of soreness...

Good luck!
