Well, a while back I posted a few pictures of a bumper that was really marked up. Well, I finally got the guts to try and fix it. I first cleaned the car up really good and then masked off the area to work on. I sanded all the paint of the area down to the bare black plastic using 60 grit. I then smoothed it out using 320grit. I decided that i could use a filler but, didnt really see the need for the extra step since the primer would fill the scratches from the sandpaper. So, i put a couple coats of primer on the bumper and sanded between steps to help get rid of the fine scratches and pieces of plastic that were raised up in the paint. After priming i used a primer sealer. Next i put on a several coats of the paint and then tried to blend it into the surrounding area as much as possible. Finally, I clearcoated the area and surrounding parts. Also, i was using a aerosol can that i got from automotivetouchup.com. After finishing this, i detailed the rest of the car with #M83 and #M80 and put two coats of #M16 on it.

Overall, there is a slight difference in the paint. However it is not that noticeable and you have to be looking for it. It stands out to me....but to the owners it wasnt. Plus, it still looks better than before. I think the results are good cause the other paint is about 10 years old and it is outside all the time so the sun has faded it some.

That looks amazing, but you should try to post the pics and write up over here rather than just a link. Could you possibly get some pics of the repair area in direct sunlight to see any difference between the look of the original paint on the bumper and new paint?

Why not just repaint the entire bumper? That really stands out to me as well.....

 

one....cost to do that was $50. cost to do whole ...a lot more....plus, we are more critical...the owners were just happy that it looked better.

 

Looks great. Im color blind so if there is a difference i cant see it.
