ow do you clean brake "rust" off rims?

just curious on how you get caked on brake dust off rims (rust-ish looking)? like what cleaners, ive tried to be safe with it and try a soap/water/brush tequnique and its just not very effective......

oh and is there a way to get rust off chrome pipe tips? im waiting for some black chrome 4" tips to get put on my flowmasters in place of these slightly rusted chrome ones but the shop i got to are backed up with appointments (a transmission place that does really good welding on the side) so till then i was gonna try to get the shine back for a little longer....

thanks

Simple green should take care of most of it. Whatever is leftover may or may not come off with a clay bar and some rubbing. If worse comes to worse I've used a combination of Windex, Bar Keeps Friend and a magic eraser(this might scuff the rims so do a test spot on the tips first.)

If I'm lazy, and don't wash my wheels for a month or longer, the brake dust leaves rust spots on my chrome wheels.

I would also like to know what everyone is using to remove it.

I am tempted to do a premature brake job, if there's a type of pad that works well and puts out less brake dust than the oem pads. My girl says I'm always doing things prematurely.

Try some Diamond truck box polish on the tips. Lowe's has it.

I use Meguiar's All Wheel Cleaner on my wheels, it gets rid of the brake dust pretty well.

Meguiar's APC or SafeDgreaser will remove it as well.

That's more information than we needed to know

As far as the tips go, if they're not to bad then try Eagle One Never Dull. That will clean the rust and road debris off of them. Then use Megs NXT All Metal Polish. The more applications you use the shinier they will get.

I'm kind of thinking they're a little on the harsh side. Won't they leave scratches?
