Meg's Tire Gel on Wheels?

Okay, I think I've found a pretty decent solution to keeping my black wheels looking pretty nice. I have 20" Procomp 7005 wheels (matte black) and I always had to keep them keep every other week with all the brake dust that kept shedding onto them. I'm generally pretty lazy in detailing my truck, and when I was cleaning and dressing my tires the other day, I decided to go ahead and rub down my wheels with the Meg's Tire Gel that I just bought.. they have a nice Satin Black look to them now

I figure it couldn't hurt, so why not? Well, I'm pretty happy with the results, it's been almost a month now, and there's virtually no brake dust on the front wheels compared to before. Has anyone else considered using tire dressing on their wheels? Heck.. if it works, why not?

I'm curious how well this stuff will work on other things.. I've heard of people using Hyperdressing on their plastic trim, so I figure this would be similar, but just more concentrated.. Anywho, I want to use some of the tire gel on my FX4 fender flares (the black plastic ones)... is this okay to use? I don't wanna buy black wow just yet, so I'd figure I'd give this a try..

Here's a link to the tire gel used..

Here's a pic of my wheels/tire with some dressing on..

Yikes! I bet that was a PITA to get the gel in every nook and crannie with those tires.

Because of all the bumps, ***** and ridges on your tires, I think you would benefit more from a spray applicator. That way, you would get more of a uniform application. I never tried it, but maybe you can just attach a sprayer directly on the original bottle?

Well, I didn't really think about that when I bought the stuff, I just figured gel would last longer than spray.. sure enough, it generally does, but I recently bought some Meg's Hyper Dressing for the tires, it makes it much easier to apply.. so I figure I'll continue to use the Tire Gel for the black wheels.. I just wanted to mention how the tire gel somehow seems to resist brake dust and gives the wheels a nice shine.

Instead of tire shine on your fenders, you can use HD. It works great, most likely better than tire shine. Also, Black WOW is a great product and is worth the $30 for the finger sized bottle. lol

I used the Megs Tire Gel for about a month and will never use it again. After a few applications it really start to build up a gunk on the tire. It's just nasty after while.

If it were my truck, I would hit the fenders, wheels, and tires with hyper dressing. That stuff rocks.

Do you mean you are applying tire shine to the rims?

Yea, I did apply the tire shine to the wheels (rims).. I got my Hyper Dressing last week and went out to detail my truck the other day, I cleaned the wheels/tires up real good and sprayed it all down with some HD then rubbed in the HD into the tires with a 2" fine bristled paint brush, wiped away excess, and then used a microfiber applicator pad to rub in some Megs Tire Gel into the wheels. Like I said, I'm sure there are other products out there that are meant specifically for wheels, but I love the look, and it really seems to keep the brake dust off my wheels. (I don't know how, but it really does) I figure it couldn't hurt, so why not.. but here's another pic after washing my truck and laying on some HD to my tires, and HD/tire gel to the wheels.

btw - you can really tell the difference in using the HD compared to the oil based sprays from Wal-Mart on my tires, I mixed the HD to 4:1 and I have a nice semi-gloss finish to the tires, and it's not even close to being as splotchy as before. (compare to my first post on this thread)

thanks darren.. I'm just waiting on my stealth bulbs to come in, I have some new headlights that I painted this weekend so I could blackout my amber reflector (I realized it's not required for Texas law, or so I think) so I could finish up the fron end, that stupid reflector sticks out like a sore thumb on my truck IMO..

anywho, when are you gonna go all out and bust out the rattle cans? lol
