got A LOT of asphalt overspray yesterday

my own people screwed me today. the the unit i am in, we do heavy construction. there are 5 flights and you would think one flight would talk to another. C flight is repaving the yard next to ours. we are working on the airfield. i get off work and go to a going away and the next morning as i am driving to work, i notice a lot of dots on my windshield. get to work and look closer and i have overspray on every panel of the truck. wonderful black dots all over. i have a claim with the legal guys ( the contractor that does our tack/prime coats didnt follow the base guidlines) so it will get cleaned but they say it could be 6 MONTHS!!! i tried bug and tar remover and it worked on the spot i cleaned but it was slow. will WD40 hurt the paint? anything else to try. i would use the bug and tar stuff but the entire truck needs to be cleaned. i got a price of $200 for a detailer to rub it out with clay and wax it. i am still pretty pissed at the other flight for not telling anyone they were having the base course sprayed that day.

WD-40 is a bitch to get off your paint so i do not reccomend that. Theres not really an easy way to get it off its just going to take work.

i had no luck with the bug and tar remover for the amount i had to clean. but i got some turtle wax bug and tar in a spray bottle (that contained a wax too) and seems to work much better, like a between washes detailer. spray on, wait 1-2 minutes and wipe off. very little scrubing. worked way better than i thought it would and actually does leave a very nice waxed paint. here is a pic of 1 the spots. some areas were worse than this, some (if not most) were better than this

It's an option but if you have any experience with tack coat, you know how much of a PITA it is. Claying might be a lengthy process. Like my previous post I would have started with Tarminator or Body Solvent and then followed that with claying to get anything that remained. Then ofcourse a nice wax.

Glad to hear you found something that worked though.

Same thing happened to my truck last year. I used 3 cans of Lifter 1 Bug and Tar Remover (Aerosol). Use it in the shade. Spray it on let it sit a couple of minutes then wipe with terry cloth towel. Removed tack coat very easily just time consuming. I contacted the company applying tack coat and they sent me a check.

I had the same issue with my girlfriends car so I took it to the local detail shop he said go get pure gasoline and use that on a rag and dab but do not wipe or rub. Since they are basically made from the same source i.e. oil the gas will remove it, but you must use pure gasoline which is harder to come by and after you need to wash with soap and water then wax.

P.S. His shop details all of Roush's vehicles, so his word can be trusted if Jack Roush himself trust's him

Mineral Spirits on a rag won't hurt the paint at all. It isn't any stronger a solvent than WD-40 is and dries less oily.

A year ago I was on a 15k streach of highway that had fresh oil. My truck was covered like yours x5. I tried so many things that would only work on a few spots, I had millions. After talking to some truckers they said they use diesel. I had some kerosene that I used, it wiped right off very easy. I washed the truck, wiped down with kerosene, washed again, waxed. It took almost a full day but the truck looked good.
