Post Cleaning car wash wax off Windshield?

What can I use to clean the drive through carwash wax off the windshield? The wipers look like they just smear stuff around, even though they are giving a good clean sweep.
I can tell there is a good build up on the glass. Windex does not seem to help. We use water and vinegar on the house windows but I am afraid what it might do to the paint of my beloved truck. Any ideas?

And by the way... I don't do drive thru car washes anymore!

Soak a cotton cloth with Coke and wipe away. If there is any residue left, hit it with windex and a paper towel

LOL... Frank's right about using Coca Cola to clean off the windshield. Actually any soft drink, usually colas, that has phosphoric acid in it will work. The smearing is caused by silicone oils found in some, if not all, car wash waxes.

Rum & Coke REALLY makes my windshield look blurry. From the inside.I'll try just the Coke.

Couldn't find the right Polished steel design, so once I modify the powercoated ones I just bought, I will paint them.

Q: who wants my "Pocket Mount" chrome ones? Price:cost of shipping, or gas and maybe lunch if you live in S/E MI.

I love that stuff. Discovered at the airport bar in Toronto last summer while making a connection to Halifax. Bought a case of it to enjoy while touring Nova Scotia and PEI. Buy it occasionally here in HOuston but its right costly! But so good!

Try a household cleaner called Bon AMI, it is slightly abrasive but when used with water breaks down guickly.

Some forms of wax are not affected by cola. Only one household item may get wax from your windshield. Try putting a little Cameo Aluminum and Stainless Steel Cleaner on a damp paper towel. On a square foot trial section rub into glass in a polishing motion. Then use another paper towel with water to wipe excess off and then clean with glass cleaner.

It's aaaalllllliiiiiivvvveee!!! Holy resurrection batman, bringing a 12 year old thread back to life. I would just use straight white vinegar or diluted on a clean cotton rag or grunge MF or just clay the windshield and then hit it with glass cleaner using a MF towel. There is no need to use harsh chemicals that could possibly damage the finish of the vehicle.

I use 0000 grade steel wool on outer glass yearly. Really gets it nice and clean/smooth. Wipers work much better afterwards as well. And no, it does not scratch the glass. I've done this for years. They use it at body shops all the time to get paint overspray off the glass as well. Just be mindful of rubber seals and trim pieces around the edge.

Aoy, just noticed how old this resurrected thread was......
