I just did my truck Sat. Wow did it wake up that paint.
Slapshot, you will love what it does for the deep wedgewood blue paint. Looks way better than when I picked it up from the dealer new.

Now you have me all excited about my truck paint, same color as yours (great color combinations I might add) and was always wondered how I could get it just a bit better than when I got it from the dealer.

What name brand did you use and what procedures did you follow....the results were that great eh??

I used the Mothers, California Gold. Came in a box with a spray bottle of cleaning/lubricating solution, and a bottle of cleaner wax. I washed and dried the truck on Fri and let it sit in the garage overnight to ensure it was cool. Then I followed the directions on the box for the clay bar Sat morning before it got too hot, and followed that up with the cleaner wax. The clay made the paint ultra smoothe and the wax made it shine.
I was wondering as I was doing it, after only a year being subject to the elements, if my truck realy needed the clay. It appears to me to have made a major difference. My truck looks like I bought it yesterday, only better!
I had been contemplating on weather I wanted to do the clay or not, even after I bought it. It will be an annual occurance now! That much of a difference!

OK, I (we) did the Jetta on Sunday evening. First off, I would like to tell everyone this is not a 20 min job, it will consume the better part of a day on an F-150. It took two of us nearly two hours to do the Jetta.
I also wanted to let everyone know that you may have to rub firmly on some spots, also you will know if the bar is lubed good, it will skid otherwise. The dipping the bar in slightly soapy water worked great and the Meguiars bar did not stick to my hands at all doing it this way.(it didn't fall apart in the water either) It did stick to the girlfriend's hands using the bottle of Quik Detailer.
Another tip, if you have smudge marks from the bar, just continue they will come up with waxing.

I was a little skeptical at first as it was getting dark when we finished then rained all day yesteday. Today I washed it and the difference was UNBELIEVABLE. It is BRIGHT white, brighter than it was off the showroom. We noticed the stains from rail dust (brown-red), but also lots of other 'stuff' coming off. Keep stretching the clay for a new surface and it will work good.
Now I have to con her into helping me with the truck.

 

Thanks for the reply back guys on the clay bar directions...I will try it out in the next week or so and let you know how it went.

I rubbed in circles, similar to applying wax by hand. And yes, it CAN scratch the paint if you aren't careful. I didn't have any problems on my wife's black Miata. Just keep it well lubed, I also recommend the soapy water over the supplied quick wax/lube, and check the surface every so often on those spots that you really have to rub on.
FYI, I also had to order my truck to get it EXACTLY like I wanted....wedgewood isn't a very popualar color...

In Reference to which way you should use the clay, go in straight lines, either up and down or side to side. Making circles can and will leave swirls. Being that I have a black F-150 I can see everything. I used to apply wax in the circular motion until I read a post here that said to go up and down or side to side. That way it goes with the grain of the hood or paint. Make sense? When you go in circles has a tendency to leave swirls. I've noticed a huge difference in the way the paint looks since I've changed to the up and down or side to side method!

I did the truck today..it came out great!! Although, next time i will buy a clay bar for each car....it was getting pretty crappy midway through the truck today...
It looks and feels better today than it did from the dealer...
