Post Detailing clay!!!!!

FYI, I got some of the Meguire's detailers clay and tried it on my wife's black Miata today....WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!! That car hasn't been that smooth and shiny since we bought it!!!
I did it in 3 steps.......
1) thoroughly washed the entire car
2) used the clay following directions on box
3) used Mequires pure yellow carnuba with my orbital buffer--real slow for a good polish

I'm gonna tackle the F150 next weekend I think. I highly recommend this clay, I am extremely happy with the results.

I used the zaino clay on memorial day and it gave me such a great shine and left the paint smoother then when I broght the truck home from the dealer. Worked out good for me.

I did do her Miata first for several reasons....
1) the lease is up soon, I wanted CLEAN paint to touch up a few dings
2) it is black, the ultimate test color for about any wax, cleaner, etc
3) it is a small, easyily done car
4) and if it screwed up the paint or anything, it wasn't on MY TRUCK!!!!

Steveo--nice truck!!! Looks like mine with the flareside bed...

I have been unable to locate any detailing clay. I'd prefer Meguiars, any suggestions on where to get this stuff? I've looked at the chain parts stores near me. (Pepboys, Autozone, Supertrak, etc..)

My wife picked it up for me....she tried Wal-Mart, they did not have it..she ended up going to Aito-Zone, and they had it..it is in a dark red box with a bottle of Quick-Detailer for lubrication...
it was just under $10

Thanks Slapshot, I'll check a different Autozone, the one I went to didn't have it, but it's in the ghetto so maybe a different store will have it.

Anyone know if the Quick Detailer from meguiars is the same as Final Inspection? It seems the two are identical.

I'd think that the Quick detail and the final inspection would be about the same stuff...it says that it is for quick cleans and touch ups in between waxes...

Sounds like it is, I really like the final inspection stuff. I called a couple of Autozones and found on that has the Meguiars clay.

Also I talked to the VW dealer today about the Jetta's spots. (The guy in charge of detailing is really cool, he has an F-150 and races a car at Rt66.) Anyway, he said the spots were from rail dust and couldn't believe I had never used a clay bar. He said he gets the best results from dipping it into a bucket of soapy water then applying it. He said all of the brands he has used are about the same and wouldn't recommend one in particular.
(For those of you wondering why, if he's so keen, didn't he do the Jetta before, he started at this dealer about a week after picking it up.)

All4chem;
I am going to use slightly soapy water next time also. I used the Quick detailer stuff on the Miata, but the bar was sticking to my hands, so I ended up spraying my hand as well, which kept it from sticking. I think a small bucket of soapy water will work perfectly next time......

Cool

Slapshot,
I used the clay bar and I put one capful of car wash soap in a spray bottle. I sprayed the part I wash doing soaking wet, put the clay bar in between my thumb and pinky and used my fingers to like spread out the soapy mixture. It worked great for me it wasn't as bad as people say.........steve
