What kind of finish do your wheels have? Flat black, painted and cleared, machined, etc?

If they are gloss black, they are probably clearcoated. Dawn is rough on clearcoat. You can use any clearcoat safe wheel cleaner.

Treat them just like you do the rest of your clearcoated paint.

If they are nasty use nothing harsher than what you would use on the rest of the vehicle. Once they are clean and waxed (NXT 2.0), just use the left over soap from washing the rest of the vehicle and use a dedicated mitt and MF drying towel just for your wheels.

You may need to change the type of brakes (Wagner Thermoquiets) you use if you are having dust problems.

If they are glossy black I would NOT use wheel cleaners very often.
Once they are clean properly and waxed they will wash easily with plain carwash soap and water.

Soap and water can't make paint chip. Paint chips from physical damage.
