Yes, Simple Green is a good cleaner for brake dust, it is mild enough not to hurt the clear coat on your wheels, after all factory wheels are clear coated just like the paint on the truck.
hmustang, I am really close to you and I have a detailing shop, if you ever have any problems with the finish, or want to see the Zaino polishes, email me and I will send you my phone number.

I don't know what it is about Simple Green, but it's the BEST thing to wash diesel smoke residue off of boats. We've been using it for years. Haven't found anything that beats it for less cost and is biodegradable and low toxicity as Simple Green.
Remember to follow the direction on dilution. It's wasteful to use it straight and I swear it doesn't work as well as when it's diluted.
Don't get it on your paint, though. I'm pretty sure it will remove your wax.
What I do when I wash my truck is I wet just the wheels first, then walk around and spray the wheels and tires with Simple Green. Then go back around with a soft bristle brush. If it gets a bit dry, a little spritz with the water hose works.
Oh yeah. It's a pretty good carpet spot remover. Just spray it on and soak it up with a terry cloth. Don't rub. Spot transfers to the towel.
I buy the stuff in gallon jugs. Lasts me a couple of years.

After the rims are sparkly, get and install some of Kleen Wheels' brake dust shields. They fit and work great, and I don't get brake dust on my wheels. Ever. See my posts elsewhere on this site in the Brakes section. They look cool, too.

If after washing it 3 times it hasn't come off, the dust has hardened and stuck to the wheel, you'll probably need something stronger than a degreaser like Simple Green.
Try a wheel cleaner that's labeled safe for clear coated wheels, a toothbrush should help scrub off the brake dust.

The best cleaner I've ever used is Eagle one
A to Z wheel cleaner!! This stuff even took
the brake dust off the backside of the wheels
and off the brake calipers too! I didn't know
that the calipers were supposed to be silver.
I 've also found this new stuff from Mother
's called Clear coat wheel polish. This prod-
uct makes the wheels look better than new,and
it leaves them very slick. They claim it keeps brake dust off the wheels. It must work
,because it rained for two days after I used
it and there are no water spots on them at
all. I don't sell it but I wish I did, it's
amazing.

door cracks,roof cracks,out of warranty,oh
hell. you think if I weld
the third door shut it'll
stop the cracks?????

I agree Eagle A to Z is awsome, I use it on my billet wheels, and haven't had to polish the rims in months. With all the other stuff I had to polish them all the time.

I usually just use the same soap and water mix I use for washing the rest of the truck along with a "netted" sponge.(for lack of a better term)
I also tried Meguiars Gold Class Wheel Cleaner and it worked well with less scrubbing. I've never tried Simple Green though so it may be all you need.
