I might be PCD

That would be Partial compulsive disorder.

Turned 58 the other day and treated myself to one of those McGuire's clay kits. I've got an 03 scab for my work truck and it has been neglected paint wise as long as I've had it. Bought it brand used in 04.

Took the time today to do the 2 bucket wash ( never did it that way before) and started the clay. WOZERS-WOZERS! What a difference it made, the Dark shadow gray looks SO much deeper now I'm jazzed. Used the human dual action buffer (right arm then left arm) so I couldn't finish the whole truck today but I'll get it next week end.

I did a bunch of reading here and figured I couldn't go wrong with the McGuire"s stuff as I'm just the average joe you guys talk about. So don't get me wrong the truck isn't a show peice but it looks so much better.

Just wanted to say thanks to all that have taken the time to "splain" the world of Detail to us average joes. Also wanted to crow just a little.

Welcome to the slippery slope. If you're like the rest of us, the "partial" won't last long because you'll slip right into the full depths of this sickness. Glad we could help!

What are you going to use after the #7? That has no protective abilities, it's just a polish.

The kit comes with Meg's cleaner wax in liquid form. Do I need something more?

Or you refering to Rxn/a ?

I was referring to the threadjacker.

The Megs cleaner wax is okay, but it's not going to give you a real nice shine or long lasting protection. What I would do in your case after the clay depends on just how much correction it needs, but I'd finish up with a premium LSP such as NXT 2.0. The cleaner wax may correct sufficiently, but you may need a stronger cleaner such as Deep Crystal step 1, ColorX, or even Ultimate Compound.

Thanks glc, it's a learning curve for me. Last truck I paid much attention to, paint wise, was a 72 Datsun-it got a bath every week and wax once a month! That was a long time ago I'm sure things have changed alot since then. Ha ha!

Can I put the 2.0 on top of the cleaner or do I need to take it off?

And remember I'm using an H-D/A buffer (human dual action).

The NXT 2.0 is your "last step product" - i.e. wax. You don't have to remove anything. Just get it the way you want it to look before you use it.

If you are doing this all by hand, use all products VERY THIN and read the directions on the bottle - some products need to dry before removal, and others you do not want to let dry.

Remember to put it on REAL THIN. If you see any white chalk it's too thick. Do the whole truck, then remove it in the same order. If you try to remove it too soon, it will be difficult to remove.

Reading ALOT of posts on detailing, I am amazed. But I have to disagree here glc. I use NXT 2.0 in the straight sun, thick or thin... I have never gotten a chalky anything and it always comes off easy. That is... unless I am doing something wrong also.

Also... not to be yet another hijacker.... FYI I am going to do my first ever clay bar thing tomorrow
