Post Can I get door crack preventive service?

I'm new to the board and have read all the stuff on the door crack problem. My truck was built 6/99 so is in the problem group. Has anyone gotten Ford dealer to install the reinforcement to prevent a crack from happening? (no sign of a crack on mine yet)
How did you go about it?

Thanks for the info. Where did you find that TSB? I can't locate it. Only team I really follow is the Seattle Mariners. They lose Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey and Alex Rodriguez and are still winners. Their GM is a miracle worker.

Try:

There’s more info and a couple threads in the “Other Body” forum.

I’ve only gone to one M’s game so far this season, the opener of the series with the Rangers, Arod’s welcome home party.

If you are past your 3/36 warantee, expect to pay through your nose for for the service. I wanted to install the kit on my 97, but the list price of just the kit is $180! I'd expect the install to cost another $100-$200.

Thanks for the guidance! My truck had an 11/99 in service date and I'm still under the 3/36. According to the TSB, looks like I am entitled to have both doors done and I will ask for that.

webfoot,

When I took my '98 in for the fix, they asked which doors had cracks. I told them just the drivers door. Then they asked if I wanted the preventative fix done on the other door, and I said sure.

So, as long as you mention it, I can't see any reason for them to refuse.

Question

Folks, I've been reading all the notes about these door cracks. I ordered my 2001 F150 Supercrew in September 2000 and got it on November 17th. I think it was built on October 26th, 2000 or thereabouts. Did Ford take steps to install the preventive measures on the trucks it built after it found the problem? Does anybody know if my truck is likely to need the procedure?

I'm getting the reinforcement kits installed in both doors Tuesday. The body shop at the local dealership has done LOTS of the installations and has a supply of the kits in stock. They encourage the preventive service, probably because Ford doesn't like paying for replacement door installations. If cracks still show up later, I'll be able to show that I did everything I could to prevent it from happening. It's clearly Ford's design problem.

Joseangel2001 the Supercrews do not have this problem. There is a different sail panel on the Screws. On the trucks with the cracks the door panel wraps around the window. The rear door of the screw looks similar to the doors that crack but still different enough and new enough to not have the problem.

On or about July 17, 2000 the fix was incorporated at the Norfolk Truck Plant.

Norm, Dunbarton...thanks for the info, much relieved my Screw is not going to have door cracks. Now, if I can just figure out why the transmission of a brand new truck clunks loudly when it downshifts....but that is another story.
