rusting hood aluminum hood...

My 05 hood has rust bubbles the whole length of the hood where it meets the grill. I know aluminum oxidizes, but why there and not the rest of the hood? I have the bright red paint. Anyone else have the same issue?

Stone chips. It could also be corrosion from behind.

not stone chips, corrosion from under the pain, yes, on the flip side of the hood, nothing.

i think he meant corrosion from behind the paint could be that the hood wasnt prepped properly once metal starts to rust or aluminum oxidizes its hard to get it to stop you have to really kick it in the butt to stop it best way to get rid of it is completly sandblast the whole hood and then use the proper techniques to repaint it
but yeah probly from stone chips you wont notice them now cus of the bubbling but thats how it probly started

I had the same issue with my 2000. I was lucky and the hood was replaced on an insurance claim.

If it's aluminum, it ain't rusting.

Might be chips or maybe a contaminant that wasn't removed before paint, but a low bug guard will hide it.

It doesn't take much for oxidation/rust to start in a Northern climate with the amount of road salt they dump on the roads especially on the leading edges of body panels. All it takes is a pin hole in the paint for water and salt to get in and start the process and I'm willing to bet that if you strip the hood there is oxidation spider webbed all over under the paint that hasn't broken the bond between the paint and metal yet.

Paint may have worn through on the hood underneath the grill surround leading to the aluminum corrosion (not rust).
