Post Ride level, ORP vs. non

I've got a 99' XLT with the tow package, which includes the HD shocks. I would have thought the HD shocks were what contributed to increased ground clearence that ORP'ed trucks have. Is there something I'm missing? Other than a sticker, the shocks, and a couple skid plates...what does the ORP include that increases the ground clearence and makes the truck ride higher than other F150's? ... They look so much better than those w/o the ORP. Any input would be helpful, thanks!

As far as I know my truck is a non-ORP but, it does have the tow package. I have set beside several ORP's and my stock heighth truck seems to sit about the same as thiers (+/- 1 inch). I could be wrong just something I have noticed.

I don't know what makes them look taller. I do know that shocks do not add height they just make the ride either softer or harder. The springs and torsion bars is what makes it sit higher. Hope that helps. -Steve

From what i've seen if the truck is a 4x4 it sits higher than if it were a 4x2. I don't know what they do to cause this but I have a 4x2 and anytime I pull up next to or park next to a 4x4 even if it dose not have the ORP or Tow package it sits about 2" higher than mine. It seems to just be they way they set the 4x4's up.

Maybe the ORP's 17" wheels and tires have something to do with it. Stock is 16".

hey fellas,
i may be off here, but i believe the tires with orp 17" are around an inch taller than the standard 4X4 16"ers. i was told that when i switched out my 255/70's for the 265/75's i'm now running i would be the same height as the orp trucks. seems to be true. the 265's are about 1 1/2 inches taller than the 255's and i am sitting pretty level with the orp guys. hope this helps, Rich.

My 2000 F-150 has the ORP package and yes it does have 17" tires and the HD shocks which makes it appear to set a little higher.

Shocks have nothing to do with height, EXCEPT for air shocks

Not sure if this means anything, but I noticed that my '99's rear box is higher than my '97 was. Both trucks were similarly equipped except for the engines. '97 had the 4.6L and '99 has the 5.4L engine. Both 4x4 SC.

Could be the stickers, you know how much HP they add on to 4 bangers,LOL.
All kidding aside,I would imagine it is tire height or heavier springs that account for the extra inch or two,am I wrong? ,,,,98

When I ordered my 97 the only thing in the ORP was HD shocks, 3 skid plates, sticker, and 17" rims. The HD shocks came with the Tow package, and you can get 2 skid plates for $60 I opted to not get the ORP. My 2000 had it, but I know that the springs are the same ORP or not. The only difference in ride height comes from the 1/2 -1" difference in tires/rims.

this is what makes mine sit higher than orp packages. on the orp its the tires. maybe they crank the torsion bars a little also.

The ORP has a different torsion bars for the front, and has 2 inch blocks in the rear.

I don't know what it is, but my 98 4X4 sits 3-4 inches higher than my friend's 1997 4X4 w/o the ORP.

My '98 4x2 seriously, no joke, sits about 3 to 4 inches lower then my new '01 supercrew 4x4. and that is without the ORP. tires and wheels are same size too!
