buying a polisher
I'm going to buy a polisher this weekend (probably a kit from detailers domain) and I was wondering what polishes you'd recommend. I have a 6 year old F150 (aspen green) and the paint and finish is very good but I have one little spot where I rubbed against a tree that would need some tougher compound. I was thinking meguires m105 then m205 after that. Truck is garaged and I clay bar and wax twice a year with megs nxt followed a cpl days later with megs 26 carnuba.
Also what pads are generally preferred? I was going to go with lake country.
Thanks for you help.
PS I hear that some guys polish the glass, what do you use for that?

Porter Cable 7424xp for me, works great, I got the Meguir's pads and their 105 and 205 compounds. Do clay, 105, 205, then wax. You will be blown away how nice it comes out. I did mine last fall, then just waxed a week ago, looks amazing still. I gotta take pics, especially on the job I'm doing on my Galaxie 500.
I clayed my windows, haven't really been able to tell how well or what it did, but can't hurt. Haven't tried polish yet.

I'm doing my first machinge polish this weekend. I got the Griots Garage ROP and Orange, White & Green pads (three each). I'm going to apply sealant by hand is why no pads for applying wax or sealant.
I'm using Meguiars Ultimate Compound (if necessary) and SwirlX. Both of these are available over the counter & I've seen them described (in detailing forums) as OTC versions of M105 & M205. Not to imply they're exactly the same as I'm not sure. I'm in the midst of claying the truck now w/Mothers Clay Bar. Using Duragloss 105 as sealant (available at Napa, Carquest that I know of).

I'm not attempting to hi-jack this thread. I purchased a Meg's DA a couple of years ago and love it's effects on my vehicles paint.
I have used Meg's Clay Bar Kit, Ultimate Compound, Scratch X 2.0, Swirl X, NXT 2.0 Tech Wax and Meg's Ultimate Wax. These are all great beginner to intermediate user products that will give great result's if used as advertised.
There are more expensive products on the market. But, for the price of Meg's OTC items, the price and quality cannot be beat.
Enjoy the new polisher.
