Porter Cable 7346SP at Lowe's under $100
Yesterday (January 2nd) I was in Lowe's (Harrisonburg) just walking around some, brousing while the wife looked for something and I saw a Porter Cable 7346SP Variable Speed Random Orbital sander / polisher on sale for $99.97, it draws 4.5 amps (mine says 4.5, some web pages claim 3.7) and has a speed range 2500-6800 OpM. All gear drive, side handle, and etc. Sounded a lot like the specs on the 7424XP I had been watching for a sale on.
So I came home and looked on line Googling "Porter Cable 7346sp vs 7424xp" and compared. I see that at http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...er-Cable-Cheap ... they are saying $116 was cheap in May 2010 .... so I guess $99.97 is pretty good then .... in January 2012.
I also checked specs (and prices) at Amazon and on Porter Cable's sites ...
... damn near the exact same tool as far as I can see.
I had the Lowe's Gift Card my BIL and his wife gave me ..... so today I went to my local Lowe's (Lexington) and grabed me one. It's like 20 degrees out, I can get some accessories later seeing as I wasn't planning on polishing soon ... but it came with a polishing pad and a sanding pad.
Also, Christmas stuff on 75% discount, picked up two of the "one into three" 14 ga 15 amp grounded cord sets, each of the three female legs is 25 feet long. Great for having several tools plugged in at once when you are going back and forth between them. With discount at 75%, $6.55 each.
Found this explanation from PC on what the difference is between the PC 7346SP and 7424XP:
Just passing it on.

"This is the same unit, however the 7424XP comes with a polishing pad only. The 7346SP includes both a sanding pad and polishing pad. The 7346sp also includes a heavier duty counterweight which will accommodate the sanding pad."
