Unhappy Lite Scratching on a Two-Year-Old Paint Job

A melange of bird poo, tree sap, and dew dripped onto the hood of my 3-week old Black F150 after waxing it up the weekend before. I tried to wash it the following weekend and none of it would come off, even with 2 washes of soap and warm water and a little elbow grease. So being the dumb *** that I am, I tried to take it off with rubbing compound...bad idea. I scratched the hell out of my hood. Now I am stumped--would a good detail repair my damage or do I need to have it re-painted with a new coat of high-gloss? Any other options? Any recommendations for a good detailer or body shop in the greater Los Angeles area? Furthermore, a small piece of the dashboard plastic came off near one of the vents--is there a replacement material that I could cut to cover the spot?

A good detailer should be able to fix you up if it's not too bad. Try going to a web site called autocareforum.com and post your question. There are detailers there who can help you.
