Anyone notice rust under the radiator support?
I was under the truck today and noticed two spots on each side of the radiator support, about the size of a half dollar each. These aren't just surface rust - the metal is actually flaking off!
Is this covered under warranty, and if it is - should I take it in and let someone screw with my truck, or fix it myself the next time I take out the radiator? Maybe I'm just to G - damn picky about the whole thing. No one else would probably ever notice this. It's just I didn't expect to see rust after only 16 mos. on a new truck.

 

If you are talking about the "seam" between the two pieces of painted metal, under the radiator, I am having the same problem. Have a 2002 4.6 silver paint--just noticed the rust today. What can we do?????

 

If you have the bumper to bumper... it should be covered. I've only had my truck for 13 mos., and that is a little premature for any rust. Take it into the dealer, I am on Friday.

Have not launched any boats.

Do not live near the ocean.

does not snow where I live.

only have to contend with the fog occasionally.

 

Thought about taking it in under warranty, but it's a hassle. I think I'm going to take a die grinder to the bad areas and then bolt in some 1/8" aluminum strips to replace it. I'll clean everything after the repair and then paint the whole area with rubbberized undercoating. You can't see this area without getting under the truck. It just bugs me that I've got rusted out metal after only 16 months.

 

I'll have to look at mine to see how bad it is as my truck is over 2 and a half years old.

 

Has anyone else inspected this area?
