Question Superchip reburn after lift and gears?

I'm looking into getting a 6" lift w/ 35's and eventually 4.10 gears. As of now, my only mods are a K&N intake, Gibson exhaust, and 33 inch tires. After reading various posts, it seems that this combination of mods doesn't require a reburn to my Superchip. But it seems to me if I went with even bigger tires and different gears a reburn would be necessary. If anyone could shed some light on this for me, it will be greatly appreciated.

Hi gdubb8,

Yes, in any 1999 & newer F-150 you will need to have the Superchip reprogrammed to restore speedometer & odometer accuracy as well as the shift points being correct.

Let us know if you'd like to have us take care of that for you when the time comes, & good luck!

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the response. I'll definitely let you know when it's time to reburn.

You're very welcome gdubb!

If I may make one small suggestion.......................

4.10 gears are fine for 32" and even up to 33" tires. However, 35" tires really need 4.56 gearing to avoid irritatingly sluggish throttle response in normal driving (below 3500 rpm & less than 50% throttle) & you'll also get better gas mileage too, believe it or not, as the engine isn't lugging. The 4.56's don't cost any more than 4.10's, and they'll give you noticeably better performance & throttle response with no mileage penalty.

The issue is getting the engine back up into it's power band, so that it's not constantly "lugging" below it's torque curve, and it takes 4.56 gearing with true 35" tall tires to achieve this in these F-150's. Just FYI, & best of luck whatever you decide!

Hi Mike,

So according to your previous post I would benefit more from 4.56 gears then 4.10 gears on my '03 SuperCrew XLT (5.4L/3.55LS) with a RCD 6" suspension kit and 305 70x16 BFG Mud Terrains?

Can you recommend a quality ring/pinion set, as I called the parts department at my dealership and they told me Ford Racing does not yet have 4.10's or 4.56's for my year truck (9.75 rear-end)?

I know you are always real busy and that I should probably call you direct to discuss matters as such but....

Also, what is the status of your website?

Hi MrTude,

The 9.75 rear end isn't new for 2003, it's the same rear end used in all the SuperCrews, Lightnings, etc.

Now it's true that you can and will run into ratio availability issues with the 9.75, but 4.10's have been available for some time now, they've been installed in Lightnings by tuners for years. All the 4.56's we've supplied have been for the 8.8's, and we've used Ford Racing gears. We really don't do much with gears as they simply aren't profitable.

My suggestion would be to peruse thru MM&FF (Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords) and look at the big mail-order ads, as there you'll find numerous other name brands of gears so you can hopefully get the ratio you really want in there.

I didn't snap to the fact that you have the 9.75 unit, so the bottom line is you have to deal with whatever you can get, to be sure, that's been an issue with 9.75's, ratio availability. But it is getting better, and over time we'll finally get the ratios we need. The 8.8's now have all the previously unavailable ratios, like 3.90, 4.30, 5.13, etc., so it's only a matter of time before more ratios are widely available for the 9.75 units.

Our web site hasn't changed, we're workng on it as fast as we can, it's going to be a couple of weeks before the online store opens. Our developer (the 4th company we've had involved) isn't getting it done anywhere nearly as quickly as they had stated they could (obviously), and after goign thru 4 companies we're not going to start from scratch for a 5th time. So we're working on it ourselves in addition to what the developer is doing, and it'll be up as soon as we can. Once it is, you can count on seeing it annouced here!

Good luck!

Thanks Mike for the reply and info.
So basically I need to hang tight and Ford Racing should have the gear ratio I want/need soon?

You never really answered my question about which gear ratio my truck/current setup would benefit the most from ~ the 4.10's or the 4.56's?

Sorry to hear about your website and all the troubles you are having with the different developers.
It's hard to find good help these days isn't it?

Does your company currently have a catalog with all the products you sell and thier costs?
If so how can I get one?
