micro tuners
i have a 2002 supercrew with a K&n FIPK intake and flowmasters, and was wondering if its worth the money to go ahead and buy a tuner. i've been going back and forth and was just wondering what type of results you guys were seeing with the 4.6. and was also wondering where would be the best place to order one from. Thanks for your help. also i use 87 octane will i have to change that in order to get the maximum performance, and will it void the factory warranty in any way. and wondering which tuner i would have to get the 1715 or the new 9100. thanks for your input again.

Ive got one for sale on Ebay (its the newer one with three programs) I purchased mine from Troyer Performance, used it on my 03 Supercrew, but am putting on a supercharger, and they reccomend not using the Microtuner. I have a "buy it now price" of only $250.00 and that includes shipping. I purchased mine around three months ago. Here is the URL for it, if you have any questions feel free to email me.

Hi mx52,
Well, in terms of what is the best bang for the buck performance enhancement, hands down that is having an optimized powertrain program - you'll gain at least as much raw power gain (and even more performance improvement) from a better state of tune than what you got from both your intake and exhaust mods
combined. So yes, it certainly is worthwhile. It won't turn a 2-3 ton truck into a rocketship, but it is the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make to your vehicle, and to just about any other computer-controlled vehicle.
Your best bet in terms of getting absolute maximum power and performance gains is to have us do an in-depth custom tune in the new custom-tune capable version of Micro Tuner.
The "standard" 1715 Micro Tuner does a fine job, don't get me wrong - you'll certainly enjoy it, a lot of people here are using it and are *very* happy with it. It has 3 different tunes, 87 octane tow-safe, premium gas tow-safe and then the "MAX" performance tune for premium gas that you cannot tow with - so it's very versatile.
You aren't going to gain "significant" power gains on 87 octane with the 1715 Micro Tuner - remember, the most basic aspect of performance tuning is to tune the engine for *good* fuel, not the cheap stuff. But I *do* feel that any non-supercharged truck should have one program that allows them to use 87 octane and still be able to operate the vehicle in any and every manner it was designed to be able to do from the factory - and by doing an in-depth custom tune, we can get more power and performance gain from *any* level of octane. If your truck is one that has problems getting into open loop in it's stock program, we can pick up an easy 15 HP on 87 octane - and a lot more on premium gas.
So there are compelling reasons to use the 9100 and have us do the in-depth custom tuning that will get you the absolute best results.
Another factor here is that you never know what you may do in the future - you may decide to do mods that require you to upgrade the MAF, or the fuel injectors (which are simple mods to do, but both require custom tuning), or more involved modifications, etc. - and if that ever happens, you will *have* to have custom tuning done - by having the custom-tune capable Micro Tuner, you're never in a "dead-end" situation no matter what modifications you may do to that truck in the future - it can always be updated to have the tuning changed as needed, and any and all custom tuning that may be needed for any performance mods can be done by us in that unit, whereas in the 1715 Micro Tuner, you can't. As Haku mentions in his post, he's going to do a supercharger, and for that he'll need custom tuning.
If you haven't done so already, give us a call at our number listed below & I'll be happy to go over with you the exact details of your particular truck's computer code, and tell you what issues it has, and just how much additional benefit you would gain by having us do the in-depth custom tune for your truck, versus what you will get with the 1715 Micro Tuner - then you can make your decision from a fully informed position.
Best of luck whatever you decide,

Hello Haku,
Just wanted to let you know a couple quick things, just in case you may not be aware..........
When someone purchases a Superchips product new from us, when you go to sell it, we will continue the Lifetime warranty against outright failure of the unit - now we don't pick up Tech Support or any other obligations to the second owner -we simply provide them with coverage against outright failure of the Micro Tuner (which virtually never happens, but it's a good selling point!). That usually does help to get it sold when the potential buyer knows that we'll be there if the unit ever fails - the manufacturer's Lifetime warranty is not transferable to any subsequent owners, it's only for the original purchaser - so this can be an important asset in selling it. You might want to mention that in your ad. All the second owner needs to do is to provide us with your original invoice from us, and we'll update our records to make sure they have that basic protection/coverage against outright failure of the unit. That's one of our additional benefits we give to *you*, the original purchaser, to help get it sold should the need ever arise - as in this case - just FYI.
Also - and here please forgive me, as I don't mean to stick my nose into your business so to speak - just trying to let you know in case you may not be aware. It's against the rules of F-150 Online to list items for sale like that here on the message boards - that is stated in big bold print on the screen where you enter any post that is placed here on the boards. If the Webmaster sees that post, he'll remove it - just letting you know in case you may not have noticed.
Don't forget to list it for sale here in the free Classified Ads section of F-150 Online (if you haven't already done that) - the Webmaster has set up that free Classified Ads section specifically for that purpose. There are always a lot of people cruising for bargains, so listing it there should hopefully move it quickly for you. Just FYI....
Good luck!

Hi mx52,
Yes, we do offer special pricing for all the Superchips products for F-150 Online members - we've been doing that for the 6+ years that we've been here.
When you call, it's best if you already have your truck's computer code handy so I can immediately go over that in detail with you - that's what determines just how much additional power & performance gain we make by doing an in-depth custom tune (even on a bone-stock truck) versus just using the "standard" 1715 Micro Tuner. I literally go into your truck's stock program and tel yo what's going on, what issues it has, and that decides whether you should really have a custom tune (again, even on a bone-stock truck) or not. I say that as there is a difference in price, the custom tunes cost a bit more than the "standard" tunes do - that is not reflected on our web site due to manufacturer's MAP guidelines - so always call us for that info.
To find your truck's computer code, go to the passenger side of the vehicle and open the front door - then look in the front part of the door frame, in the general area of the door hinges, and there you should find a small sticker that has 3 letters followed by 1 number on it - that's your code. I'm *not* talking about the sticker on the back of the driver's door (wrong side of the truck) that says "calibration" on it, that isn't what we want. If yo have any problem finding your code, just call us & we'll show you several ways to locate it.
Good luck & we look forward to speaking with you any time!
