not sure about chipping a 4.2? read this!
My wife will tell you that I'm VERY skeptical. I did alot of reading on the boards and called Mike at Troyer Performance before I decided. After talking to him, I couldn't wait to order a micro tuner! I ordered it last Monday, and got it today (Monday a week later). I ordered the new Custom Micro Tuner. The instructions were very straight forward and easy. Note: DO check, like the instructions say, in your owner's manual for the correct fuel pump fuse as mine was different than what were in the instructions. I didn't time how long it took to do the programming, but it wasn't long. My truck ROCKS now!! I started with the perf/tow program, ran it around the block (I live in the country, so it was a big block). The difference is unbelieveable to me. The throttle response is so much quicker. The shifts are alot better. If you run it up to 5000 rpm or so you REALLY feel it. Even under normal to moderate acceleration the shifts are much better. My truck now feels like the 4.6 I use to have.
Mike and his staff have been very helpful, and I'm a very happy customer.
For those who will ask, the only mod I've done so far is to replace the inlet to the airbox with PVC. But I plan on an intake system soon.
Sorry for the long post.

Hi BBF,
What we can do via our in-depth custom tuning even for a bone-stock truck is very noticeable.
Those 4.2 V6's like yours have particular issues that we known extremely well from specializing in F-150 tuning - you're absolutely right, the difference in those 4.2 V6's has to be felt to be believed - you will have *no* problem running circles around another identical truck that has the 4.6 V8, for example.
Aside from the raw peak power gains, the improvement in all-around driveability at any throttle position or rpm is amazing - those 4.2 V6's are so weak below 2500 rpm it's a pity, even though they have a decent peak HP output stock when they're wound up to high rpms. We can turn those 4.2 V6 F-150's into a truck that is actually *fun* to drive.
Now be careful and don't get any speeding tickets - with our tuning and the ts limiters removed, that truck can go a *lot* faster on the top end than what it could before - in terms of actual top speed, you can literally leave stock 4.6 & 5.4 V8 F-150's in the *dust*. While they're bouncing off their speed limiters, you'll be pulling away harder & harder.
We're delighted that you're enjoying it - and thanks for your post!
