Hypertech=Detination?

I was considering installing a pro-charger unit on my 1998 4.6L F-150, But I would also add larger tires. The hypertech programers allow you to fix the oddometer screw up with the larger tires. But the pro-charger says not to use a timing advancer with there systems, does the hypertech or other programing modules advance or retard the timeing?

Hi black98F150,

First, you cannot correct your speedometer in any 1998 or 1997 F-150 by using such a device, as that is not in the PCM's program - you will have to change the speedometer gear (simple & cheap to do) just like vehicles have had their speedometers calibrated for decades. Not until the 1999 model year can you use such a device to recalibrate your speedometer via altering the PCM's programing.

To answer your question, you CANNOT use ANY "standard" type of tuning device with a supercharger added - so you can forget about the Hypertech Power Programmer, and forget even the 1715 Superchips Micro Tuner - neither one will be safe to use with *any* supercharger, as you need *custom* tuning for any supercharger, and both of those units are designed for non-supercharged engines. That means you would probably suffer engine damage if you tried using them.

We have tuned literally countless F-150's with superchargers added - more than anyone else, as we've specialized in them for 12+ years now - so we can provide you with a custom version of the Micro Tuner (which is a hand-held flash device, like you're talking about, but with *proper* tuning for a supercharger) that will properly tune that engine for any supercharger you use. That will give you 3 different performance tunes, set up for your vehicle's exact configuration, how it's being used, and any particular preferences you may have - and you'll pick up some very nice additional power and performance gains as a result. Not only on the top end, but also below 2500 rpm, where the centrifugal blowers aren't making boost, and this makes all the difference in the world in how the vehicle drives and responds, all throughout the rpm range.

Because we specialize in F-150 performance, we provide everything from air filters to superchargers and everything else in between - so if you like, we can provide a complete package that will *include* the proper custom tuning needed as well - just FYI.

Just give us a call at our number listed below when you get a chance, and we can go over all of this with you in proper detail so you'll have a good thorough understanding of exactly what you're getting into, from the proper way to recalibrate your speedometer in that 198 model to all the aspects of the custom tuning for the supercharger - the results, costs, benefits, etc. - everything you need to know to make a fully informed decision.

Good luck & hope to talk with you,
