Post Chip for sale

I have a Superchips chip for sale. It fits a 97 F-150 4.6L w/5speed. It has the revlimiter moved to 6500 RPM and the top seed limiter removed. Computer code: NLK2
Price $100.00 US plus Shipping. The reason I am selling it is because it will not fit my 2000 which has a different code.

Regards

Question

JMC: did you use your 97 as a trade-in or did you sell it outright?? I also noticed you stayed with the same size engine, was this so you could still have a 5speed?? I'm also quessing you had to order that beast too. Another question: can you tell if there's any performance differences between the 97 and the 00??? Thanks

Tina,

My lease was up so they got it back, bent frame and all. You guessed right, 4.6l to get the 5 speed. Correct again, I had to order it. The Dealer was leary of ordering the odd duck without a deposit so I obliged and gave him 1 months lease payment. They were quite good to me in return my monthly lease payment was lowered $55.00. It is hard to tell if there is a performance diff in the two as I retrurned my 97 in May. It had a Borla, Superchip and chopped up air box. My initial reaction was that it was just as powerful but some of that could have been because of the GRIN factor. I have since removed the snorkle that goes from the tip of the air box into the fender. I have also removed the inner flow path tube in the air box outlet. I have also installed my Borla. All I need now is a Chip.

Dear JMC,

One thing you will probably notice is that it will take up to 10,000 miles before your new engine fully loosens up and makes it's best power and gas mileage. It used to only take about 4000 miles in the late 80's and early 90's with most American vehicles, but that has increased now, so it can take anywhere from 4000 to as much as 8000-10,000 miles to fully loosen up. You will probably notice a little bit more power as you accumulate miles. Your 97 would have been the same way, only it wouldn't have taken quite so long, maybe only 4000 - 6000 miles to loosen up fully.

My wife is on her 3rd or 4th 4.0 V-6 engine, all Explorers until this last one, which is her 99 Ranger 4.0 5-speed. I was very disappointed with it's performance compared to her heavier Explorers, until it just recently broke the 10,000 mile mark. I drove it the other day, and noticed that it's a bit quicker now. Her other 4.0's always had loosened up by 4000 miles, but not this new one.

Just FYI,

Mike,

10,000 miles? Wow, that will take a while, I have 3200km ( 2000 miles) now so i am looking at 5 more months. I wish you could buy a truck pre-broken in, is that a word. Anyways thanks for the heads up, I won't expect to blow any Porches away yet. I kinda wish the Dunes were open.

Dear JMC,

Yes, it can take that long, it did on my wife's 99 Ranger 4.0

The V-8's may do this a bit quicker, I don't know, but at any rate, it will be at least 4000-6000 miles before it makes full power & gets it's best gas mileage. For example, if you look at any long-term road tests done by say, Car & Driver and other magazines for example, any new vehicle is quicker and faster when they do the acceleration tests at 30,000 miles than they are when the vehicle is brand new. Even though by 30K miles you have lost anywhere from 8-12 hp to spark plug wear, they're almost always quicker at 30K miles. This is a good thing, as the end result is an engine you can reasonably expect to go at least 150K miles with regular maint., and a lot of them have gone considerably further than that. Of course, as often as *you* buy new vehicles that may not be a concern!

Say, did the dealership give you any static for the bent frame or any other damage to your last truck when you turned it in off of lease? When we turn in lease vehicles, all they ever check for is broken windows!

Another point is, I *immediately* changed my wife's Ranger oil over to Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30, and *that* may have prolonged her engine loosening up, so that may be a small part of why it took 10K miles for her 4.0 to fully loosen up and start performing nicely, instead of just 4000-6000 miles.

Enjoy your nice new truck,

Mike,

I have decided to travel to Québec once a month till I hit at least 6000 miles, should only take a couple of months. The dealer didn't say a thing about the bent frame. It bent evenly on both sides of the rail in the rear so it didn't show. The second time I bent the frame the insurance company got involved because I pushed the fenders up into the doors. But again it was even so I was able to travle home and the truck drove straight. I cost about $2500.00 to repair. They didn't say anything about the cut up air box either.

JMC,

Wow, I'm glad all that worked out so it was even and you were able to drive it and turn it back in off lease with no problems, excellent! They only look for holes in any of the windows when we turn them in.
