Was an insult headed towards me? If so, I am just trying to help.

No fast46triton,

The "insult" was not meant for you. You seem to be a productive member of this BB and at Ford-Diesel.

Mike T,

I expected 0 mileage increase, especially while the computer and the driver relearn.

This truck is a "lead zeppelin". I can't believe that Ford leaves that much room for improvement.

This also dispells the thoughts that the new Ford anti-knock sensors adapt to premium fuel. I was running good premium before the chip addition.Sorry that some cannot accept the fact that when I ran 87-94 octane I got the same mileage consistantly. I EVEN reset the computer each grade! Keep in mind. This is a Full size truck with a Full size engine with a Full size job to do.

Someone forgot to warn me about the 5500rpm downshifts. Pissed my pants. Gotta keep that in the front of my mind from now on !!

Dear Spaceace,

It's always nice to be pleasantly surprised by better gas mileage, especially when you aren't expecting it! Those F-250 5.4's seem to get a nice improvement in gas mileage with the Superchip.

One thing I wanted to mention just briefly to everyone, different gasolines have differing energy contents, or BTU's per gallon of gas. So it is possible for someone to get a little bit better mileage sometimes just by switching to premium, or a different brand. It's not consistent, frequent, or anywhere near enough to offset the additional cost, but there is enough variance in these vehicles and in gasoline formulations all across the country that it's possible to see very small improvements sometimes just by switching grades and/or brands, and it's just a matter of the actual energy content of the fuel, rather than anything having to do with Ford's tuning.

Have fun, Spaceace!

Mike,
I'm running reformulated from now til April here in SE Pennsylvania.

I'm gonna keep tracking mileage and posting to keep myself brutally honest.

That's an excellent idea, Spaceace, and that will be great data to have! You'll see what the mileage is over the winter, and then what happens to it as you go back to your area's summer formulations. You can never have too much data!
